From the red carpets of Hollywood to the runways of Paris, GC babes are a treasured bunch that know how to take the world by storm. Staying true to their beach-y roots and making us beam with pride from Cooly to Coomera, here’s a list of Gold Coast women we’re damn chuffed to call our own.
Time and time again, Miss Universe Australia 2010 winner Jesinta Campbell has proved her limitless style and grace, leaving the Coast feeling proud as punch. Aside from being well-dressed, down-to-earth, and naturally stunning, she always handles the public’s keen interest in her private life with complete mastery. In 2016, Campbell received a whopping social media critiquing for sporting a risqué Camilla and Marc dress to the Logies. Her response? A punchy rebuttal detailing her altered perception of the politics of fashion brought on by an encounter with Iranian fashion designer, Tala Raassi. Touché, Jessinta. Touché.
One of the 100 most influential people in the world for 2017 according to Time Magazine. And. She. Went. To. Somerset. College. Just let that simmer for a moment. Grasped it? No, neither have we. Margot Robbie is our darling golden child, the one we love for so many reasons, not least of all for giving us a few less degrees of separation from Leonardo DiCaprio. Fiercely protective of her private life and endlessly grounded, we’ll be shocked if this GC lady ever puts a foot wrong.
Carmen Grace Hamilton
When Carmen Grace Hamilton left the Gold Coast for the bright lights of Sydney she had ambitious dreams, as so many do, for a career in fashion. Now being whisked around the world for photo shoots and fashion shows, and working with the likes of Chanel, Louis Vuitton and YSL (to name but a few) it’s safe to say her dreams have come true. If there’s a Gold Coaster out there that’s nailed the Parisian cool look as well as Carmen, someone please alert us ASAP.
Lauren & Ellie Bullen
Lauren Bullen—together with her equally Insta-famous boyfriend, Jack Morris—commands her two million plus Instagram following to get off their butts and travel. Meanwhile, Lauren’s twin sister, dietician and author Ellie Bullen, speaks to a casual following of over 800k about the merits of plant-based living. Together they’re taking Instagram by storm. These powerhouse twins may have been born in Lennox Head, but we here on the GC are keen to claim them as our own. What’s a few kilometres of coastline amongst Instagram friends?
Born in Murwillumbah, 30-year-old Roxy sponsored surfer Stephanie Gilmore is so much more than a professional athlete. A six-time world champion and the highest paid woman in Australian sport, Gilmore dominates in and out of the ocean, noted as a feminist, musician, traveller and environmentalist. Not one to outgrow her heritage, she’s often quoted touting her love for the Gold Coast, talking fondly of early memories spent in the flawless waters of Greenmount. There’s nothing we love more than rock solid GC love from a legend who moves away.
Entrepreneur and ultimate girl boss Karissa Fanning could have easily retired into a simple life as the other half of her world surf champ husband, Mick Fanning. But for the Bond University film grad and swimsuit model, swanning about in Hawaii watching Mick dominate in the ocean didn’t sound like a fulfilling path. Shortly after walking down the aisle, Karissa launched her now hugely successful online wedding guide, The Lane, pioneering something of revolution within the knot tying industry. Or at the very least, inspiring women the world over to seriously up their ante of glamour in their nuptial game. Though her own marriage has recently ended, our love for Karissa has only grown, with her swift and mature handling of media attention making her the apple of our Gold Coast eyes.
