Another massive event has just wrapped up this past weekend and, low and behold, another is preparing to kick off. Ah, how we love autumn on the Coast!
The 2017 edition of the Gold Coast Film Festival gets underway today, crammed with 120 films and film-related events. We know your time is precious and decision-making can be tough, so we’ve scoured the event program to bring you five events you shouldn’t miss at this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival.
Hopsfest Pulp Fiction In The Brewery | Saturday, April 22
Held in conjunction with the Gold Coast Film Festival, Burleigh Brewing is generously hosting a FREE screening of cult ‘90s classic, Pulp Fiction. Come for the cold craft brews and eats by Little Havana food truck, and stay for the flick as the sun sets. Note to parents: due to the R-rated movie, Hopsfest is an 18+ event!

Gold Coast Movie Locations Tour | Saturday, April 22 to Monday, April 24
Film geeks unite, because we’re getting our very own Hollywood-style movie locations tour! Given the Coast is one of the country’s premier locations for blockbuster films, it’s only fitting this tour was developed for the Gold Coast Film Festival. If you’re guilty of prowling Broadbeach for sightings of Johnny Depp, Blake Lively, Hiddleswift, or Dwayne Johnson, then climb aboard this three-hour behind-the-scenes tour. You’ll visit celeb-spotting hotspots, various Gold Coast filming locations, and make-up effects workshop JMB FX, plus get to listen to juicy stories from Queensland film crew.

Sipfest | Sunday, April 23 and Monday, April 24
It’s not everyday we can get cosy in the sand with popcorn, while being immersed in raw and dramatic short flicks on a super-sized outdoor screen. Popping up on Surfers Paradise Beach, SIPFest (Shorts In Paradise) is a not-to-be-missed event on the Gold Coast Film Festival roster. Australia’s next generation of filmmakers will keep you entertained with the screening of 12 finalist short films (Sunday) followed by the cream of the 2016 London Short Film Festival crop (Monday), and best of all, it’s free!

Brewed At The Kitchens | Friday, April 28
Trust the caffeine-loving organisers of the GCFF to seamlessly marry our obsession for coffee with film. Hosted by The Kitchens at Robina Town Centre, you’re invited to a special screening of the documentary film, Barista, promised to blow your mind when it comes to the world of elite-level baristas and their muse, coffee. Your $15 ticket to Brewed At The Kitchens includes a pre-show espresso martini or cold-pressed coffee, to ensure you’re buzzing along with the baristas on the big screen.

Surf Classics At Coolangatta | Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30
In true Gold Coast style, the film festival will be cruising south on the final weekend with a cool new event—an open-air screening atop beautiful Kirra Hill! With the glittering city lights in the distance and stars overhead, settle in with a picnic blanket and BYO cheese platter, for a fun community night out. Classic ‘60s flick Endless Summer is screening Saturday night, with family-friendly Surf’s Up on Sunday. Not a bad way to spend a balmy autumn evening, is it?
