Drive past this buzzing Miami street corner any night of the week and you’ll agree us Gold Coasters are fast developing a love affair with vegan food.
With their mantra, “anything you can do, we can do vegan”, Greenhouse Canteen is changing the way we think about the versatility of a plant-based lifestyle and have successfully left even the most devout carnivore eating flax seed humble pie.
So, it comes as no surprise sisters Natalie and Charlie Evans of Greenhouse Canteen were the first culinary maestros that 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace’s founder and director, Terri Lew approached when curating her first long table dinner gathering. To be held within the creative and vibrant walls of Terri’s versatile Mermaid Beach gallery, we’re crushing on this soon-to-be-monthly event—The Art Of Food.
Created with the simple notion of bringing people together in a welcoming setting to share healthy and nutritious eats, menu tempters include raw tacos with avocado salsa, dehydrated eggplant lasagna with a Napoli and basil sauce, raw pad thai salad, and a raw and baked dessert tasting plate. Sounds sensational, right?
Vegan or not, if you’re an avid supporter of 19 Karen and Greenhouse Canteen, or out-of-the-box dining experiences in general, you simply must get yourself along to a dinner, and keep supporting this inspiring new wave of Gold Coast pop-up foodie soirees that are delivering so much magic and depth to the local community.
Not only will you be spoilt with a six-course, plant-based degustation, and hear raw plant food stories from Natalie and Charlie; you’ll also take home an original ceramic plate by local artist Helen A Naylor. All this while surrounded by like-minded new friends and endless talking points, AKA the contemporary works of art adorning the walls of 19 Karen’s warehouse gallery. Neat, hey?
Tickets are still available for the inaugural dinner on Saturday, February 25, though we highly doubt they’ll last long. So if your life is a constant series of JMOs (Just Missed Outs) then you must share this with your besties and nab those final seats, pronto. While Terri and the gals already have plans to do it all again in March, only a privileged few can brag that they were at Greenhouse and 19 Karen’s first ever pop-up The Art Of Food rendezvous. Make sure you’re one of them!
