Step Up Your Picnic Game At This Avocado Orchard And Cactus Garden

A picnic rug, complete with a spread of food and drink, sits underneath the trees in an avocado orchard.

Grab your basket, Tropical Fruit World in the Tweed Valley has opened its avocado orchid and cactus garden for picnics. And you won’t need to bring a thing.

The farm’s cafe is bursting with ‘paddock to plate’ takeaway treats, like avocado served five ways, jackfruit and rump pie, and a Duranbah beef burger with, you guessed it, lashings of avocado, so arrive with an empty stomach.

Whilst the avocado is quite obviously the hero of the farm (there’s 17 varieties) we also can’t go past their selection of dried fruits and locally made chocolates filled with exotic fruits—heads up, the honeycomb is next-level.

In case sprawling on the grass, devouring your feast, isn’t enough of a setting for you, the team here also have Wandering Folk picnic rugs for hire for $5. And it’ll totally lift your Insta game, if you spread one of these babies out.

After you’ve take a phone full of photos in the supersized cactus garden, make time to sample piping hot macadamias roasted in lemon myrtle, raw honey, green papaya and Himalayan salt, and then finish your Tropical Fruit World visit with a locally-brewed beer from Stone & Wood or the Tweed’s favourite spirit, Ink Gin.
