You know what they say, the early bird gets the macchiato. As we head into the warmer months, we can think of no better time to start setting our alarms a little earlier and making the most of Sydney’s mighty fine coffee joints.

We’ve collated a bunch of Sydney’s best cafes that open super early because well, there is nothing quite like the feeling of capturing the best of the morning with an obnoxious sunrise post on the ‘Gram. Yep, these bad boys are all up and churning out the caffeine before life really starts in Sydney.

Here are the best cafes in Sydney that are open super early.

The Penny Royal | Mosman

There is no better way to kick-start the day than with a visit to this buzzing little laneway joint. Not only does The Penny Royal know their way around a great brew, but these legends have an epic brekkie menu which makes this haunt a local favourite. You can hit this one up as early as 6am (just not on Saturdays).

Bellagio Brew Bar | Surry Hills

The team behind Bellagio Café have recently opened up a new joint in Surry Hills. This newbie is hidden inside a barber on Crown Street and the team here is serving up Pablo & Rusty’s coffee bright n early alongside tasty toasties all made in-house. You’ll find the Brew Bar ready to caffeinate at the bright ol’ time of 6:30am every day excluding Sunday.

ME Coffee Merchants | Mascot

Previously known as Mr Espresso, ME Coffee Merchants is your one stop shop to an early morning Artisan roasted coffee and breakfast classic. These legends’ have an all-day breakfast menu which is filled with a bunch of old-school faves like eggs benny and B&E rolls. Side note: give the 48-hour nitrogen infused cold brew a go, it’s a real day kick-starter. To top it all off, the Merchant crew is making golden cups of glory as early as 5:30am on weekdays.

Essence Coffee | Neutral Bay

The perfect grab your piccolo and go situation. Essence is a central little hole in the wall which is open bright and early for a splendid coffee. This guy is your go-to midweek for a spot of caffeine from 6am.

Speedo’s Café | Bondi Beach

It’s an oldie but a goodie. There is nothing quite like the magic of hitting North Bondi just after sunrise, heading for a salty dip and hitting up Speedo’s for a takeaway coffee at the mega trendy grassy knoll (that little slope of grass nearby). These guys serve up breakfast before 7am too if you need some refuelling.

5 Loaves 2 Fish | Neutral Bay

It’s a light and bright spot nestled along Neutral Bay’s jam-packed Grosvenor Street and it’s the perfect morning stop. 5 Loaves 2 Fish focuses on speciality coffee, artisan sambos and colourful wholesome brekkie all at 6am (just not on Sundays).

Pablo and Rusty’s | Sydney CBD

Pablo & Rusty’s is always filled with early-rising suit-clad folks getting around their morning brew. This coffee haunt serves up its own roasted coffee blends and a heap of tasty brekkie options from 6:30am. Our go-tos are the buttery miso mushrooms and bacon and truffled egg salad, but what do we know… you better check the menu out for yourself. These guys have an extensive range of teas which are super warming, and the sticky chai is next level.
