SO WHO'S ON OUR HIT LIST OF PIZZA JOINTS IN SYDNEY?
Oh, delicious pizza. There is little in this world we love more than its chewy, carby base and tasty, tasty toppings. The ability for the humble pizza to be eaten on a romantic date, home alone when you’re deep in a Netflix hole, or cold the next morning, proves that pizza is the versatile king of the eating world.
From classic establishments in Lane Cove to new kids on the pizza block, these Italian restaurants are serving up some of the best pizzas in Sydney. There’s no stuffed-crust behemoths here, guys, just straight up, bona-fide Italian deliciousness. Buon appetito!
Vacanza In The Hills
Let Alessio and the super friendly staff at Vacanza In The Hills stuff you good and proper with some of Sydney’s best pizza. Exceptionally busy for a reason (the food here is amazing), don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a table on Friday and Saturday nights. But just think, you’ll be extra hungry by the time you sit down, which means more pizza, prosciutto, and mozzarella for you!
Don’t let the fluorescent green sign on the building turn you off, Aperitivo is one of our favourite pizza places in Sydney. Taking their pizza making very seriously, Aperitivo’s head chef Francesco Spataro ensures every base is hand-kneaded and baked in a 400ºC wood-fired oven for no longer than 90 seconds. You really can’t go wrong with whichever pizza you choose, but if you can’t decide, just close your eyes and point – you’ll pick a winner either way.
Napoli Nel Cuore
This little Sydney pizza restaurant is becoming more and more popular by the day. Fortunately, they take reservations which means (if you’re organised), a table will be waiting for you and not the other way around. The pizzas here are some of the best we’ve tried and, pro-tip: be sure to order the antipasto Napoli Nel Cuore as a starter—we have dreams about those deep fried and seasoned dough balls.
Lane Cove and Hunters Hill
It’s a good thing Via Napoli opened a second branch in Hunters Hill—the Lane Cove outpost was already bursting at the seams with hungry patrons wanting their fill of Sydney’s best pizza. The pizza here is done in true Napoli style with soft and chewy bases and simple toppings (the margherita is their signature). If you’re up for it (and why wouldn’t you be?), go for the one metre pizza—it’s highly ‘grammable and, of course, delicious.
Fourth Village Providore
A Pavlov’s dog-like reaction occurs in us when someone mentions Fourth Village Providore. Home to gourmet treats from all over Italy, a cheese room (OMFG!) and ridiculously good pizza, we wish this Mosman-based food market and restaurant also had a sleeping room so we could essentially live in our own version of paradise.
We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Sydney. From food to fashion, Campari to Crossfit, each Fave 5 edition is researched and recommended by The Urban List, and driven by the new MINI 5-Door Hatch—putting the city at your fingertips and giving you the freedom to explore it!
