Kansas City Shuffle Opens

By Ally Parker - 27 Oct 2015

The newest Sydney café to join our swelling—yet equally appreciated—ranks is Kansas City Shuffle. Designed with both the corporate joe and creative spirit in mind, KCS slides easily into The Rocks district and our food and drink loving hearts.

Head chef Kayne Papworth (Proud Mary, Dr Morse) has designed a ‘best of both worlds’ menu crafting a mix of American diner classics, superfoods and better-than-average ingredients, proving you can have your ‘farewell thine arteries’-style burger and sense of health too.

Not only is this straight-up good stuff, but everything is made in-house with only the best seasonal produce. We’re talking fried chicken on a house-made donut bun with slaw, pickles and jalapeno aioli and, if you haven’t already abandoned us to grab a bite, beef brisket and waffles with smoked chilli butter and poached egg. Vegetarians can dig deep into the toasted pumpkin bread with avocado, whipped feta, heirloom tomato and toasted seeds.

Knowing that with one bite you’ll be hooked, KCS also offer a mini-takeaway menu with chia pudding (fresh fruit, coconut, puffed grains) as well as gluten-free bowls of tofu, chicken or salmon available from the hole-in-the-wall takeaway facilities.

Ben Sweeten (Joe Black, Proud Mary) not only rocks the coffee side of things (Single Origin, of course) but he has also designed an interior of stone, wood and greenery for laid-back vibes. Ben’s twin brother Jimmy has also pitched in, making the recycled oak furniture and wooden tiered light installation to wow us, and prove that we should stop our atomic wedgie crusade against the sibs sooner rather than later (it’s been 20-odd years after all).

Pull up a chair at the communal table as you umm and ahh between coffee and wine (a curated selection of red, white and sparkling) and whether you’d like to order one of everything or fit into your pants tomorrow (hint: it’s one of everything).

Get psyched friends ‘cause this is just the beginning—an additional space for private events will open in early 2016 at this new Sydney café.
