We all love a good trivia night. Nothing says epic mid-week catch up quite like it—devising a quirky team name, marvelling at the incomparable genius of that friend with a very specific and reliable knowledge of every episode of Seinfeld, the discounted drinks, and each week wondering (if you do win) how exactly you’ll make it through that mammoth meat tray. It’s a real blast.
So because we just love a solid trivia night, we’ve rounded up the best places in Sydney to grab a beer, put your thinking caps on and test out both yours and your mates’ ability to recall otherwise totally useless information.
These are Sydney’s best trivia nights.
Public House Petersham
Head to PHP for music trivia every Wednesday from 7pm. First place scores a $100 food and bev voucher, a $50 voucher for second place and a PHP merch pack for the bronze medalists of the evening. There are also stacks of good prizes to be won on the PHP wheel-of-fortune.
Hosted by Sydney's own trivia king, James "Breko" Brechney, Monday night trivia at The Imperial is equal parts knowledge, improv comedy and games. If your Monday has been low-energy, expect to switch it up a gear or three with activities like tops and bottoms, Uber rating bingo and a bubble blowing challenge. It all starts at 7.30pm, more details are here.
If Monday's are too early in the week for you, you can also catch Breko for Tuesday night trivia at East Village, which is high energy, creative and stacks of fun. Expect pop culture questions, picture rounds and general knowledge as well as some slightly more physical (as opposed to mental) challenges like ring toss and human Hungry Hippos. Each table has its own plasma screen for music and video questions. Spot prizes like jugs of beer and bottles of wine are thrown into the mix, but first place scores a $75 bar tab, second gets a $50 bar tab and third scores Breko's mystery prize. It all kicks off at 7pm, head here for more info.
The Unicorn Hotel
The Unicorn is known for its outrageous Cards Against Humanity nights (Wednesdays), but also for its epic Tuesday trivia nights. Offering a first-place prize in the form of a crisp $100 bar tab, you’ll want to study up on your oddball facts, pop culture and of course in the true Unicorn fashion, toilet humour. Check it out here.
Hosted by the one and only Hanna Conda, Turbo Trivia at The Carrington features general knowledge questions, as well as pop culture and a mid-quiz paper plane challenge. It's on every Tuesday from 7pm and prizes include Carrington cash to spend at the bar. More details are here.
Dove & Olive
Trivia Tuesdays go off at the Dove & Olive in Surry Hills. Grab a $12.90 schnitzel; tinnies for $6 and gather up your brainiest teammates to get cracking. It all kicks off at 7pm every week and bar cash prizes are up for grabs. Book your spot here.
Parkhouse Food & Liquor
Thanks to the absolute heroes at Parkhouse Food & Liquor in Mona Vale, the pop-culture and entertainment knowledge you’ve soaked up on social media, Netflix and Stan may finally be useful for something. Their monthly trivia night follows a specific theme—from Avengers, to Disney and Star Wars, if you call yourself a fan, this is a great opportunity to prove it, and win prizes. Head over here for more info.
Tuesdays are a great day at the Oxford Tavern. Expect all-day $12 schnitzels and an epic round of Quiz Meisters trivia with cash prizes to win. The Tav is also home to a huge lineup of locally owned and independent beers on tap, live music, a BBQ smoker, a spritz menu and cocktail jugs mixed with PS40's house-made sodas and local booze—so, yes, there’s a lot to love here. More details are here.
The Old Fitzroy
When publican Jamie Wirth snapped up The Old Fitz, he vowed to keep all of its best parts going—including their Wednesday night trivia, from 7.45pm. Expect two rounds of questions, with a couple of quickfire sets thrown in for good measure. Bar tabs are up for grabs if you win.
Every Tuesday at The Forresters you’ll be able to score $15 burgers and fries, while you and your mates put your smarts to the test with a round of trivia hosted by Quiz Meisters. There are two rounds with 15 questions each. As well as regular bar tab prizes ($100, $50 and $25 for first, second and third respectively) there’s a jackpot on offer too—which increases by $50 each week until someone scoops it up. Check it out and book a spot here.
