sydney style

Are you an Eastern Suburbs kinda gal? Or are you North Shore ‘til you die? Wherever it may be that you call home in this lovely city of ours, it definitely has an impact on which trends you rock (don’t deny it!), and we’re willing to bet you fall into one of these Sydney style tribes.

2026 (Bondi)

Bondi is populated by many a tourist, keen to adopt the ‘local’ way of dressing. In their minds, us Aussies are all about keeping fit, surfing, and looking good while doing so, and it’s that very look that the Bondi gals try to emulate. Cue every single one of them rocking leisurewear at all times.

What they wear: A face full of makeup, high ponytails, limited edition Nikes, Vie Active leggings, technical cashmere from Kit & Ace, anything and everything Lululemon and neon sports bras; all stuffed into a Michael Kors handbag.

Style icon: Lara Bingle.

2010 (Surry Hills)

If you frequent Surry Hills, you can bet you work in a media agency or PR company. Achingly trendy, these girls have a bit of spare change, so buy their clothes from the expensive vintage and boutique stores in the area… but try to look like they haven’t.

What they wear: Androgynous outfits, glasses from Eyewear Youwear, brogues, midi length dresses sourced from Paris Texas boutique, with chunky, knitted jumpers, work pants from Stolen Girlfriends Club; all topped off with a trendy hair cut and minimal (or no) makeup.

Style icon: Alexa Chung.

2028 (Double Bay)

Double Bay, double pay! The girls that you find sipping cocktails in this part of town emulate the areas posh boutiques and expensive brunch hangouts through their polished, classy style. Natch.

What they wear: To brunch, these perfectly presented girls will be wearing skinny jeans, expensive ankle boots, a simple tee and will accessorise with a Goyard bag, printed Hermes scarf or Celine sunnies. By night, you’ll find them in pencil skirts and blouses with strappy heels, or rocking Hervé Léger or Alexander Wang bodycon dresses. Oh, and they’ll always have hair, tans and nails that look like they just stepped out of a (achingly expensive) salon.

Style icon: Miranda Kerr.

2042 (Newtown)

If you call Newtown home, you can be sure that you’re a) A hipster, b) A student, or c) Both. Home to the grunge-hipster (is that a thing?!) Newtown is full of girls who look like they’ve just rolled out of bed, or never been to bed at all.

What they wear: Last night’s makeup, bed hair, scrunchies, ripped skinny jeans from Nudie or Dr. Denim, crop tops, beat-up Converse or Vans and oversized plaid shirts from Levi’s and Cheap Monday.

Style icon: Tegan and Sara

2095 (Manly)

Home to the surfer chick, Manly girls, with their sun kissed glow and unfairly toned bods, nail laid-back style in a way you just can’t copy.

What they wear: Denim cut-offs from Bow and Arrow, casual t-shirts from Petras @ The Roof, Buddha Wear yoga gear, just-off-the-beach wavy hair, no makeup, and sandals.

Style icon: Sally Fitzgibbons.

2230 (Cronulla)

Also full of many a surf chick, these gals like to show off their skills by rocking bleach blonde do’s and outfits boasting surf brand logos. Never afraid to show off a lot of their (very tanned) skin, Cronulla chicks rock some seriously skimpy outfits, in the form of tiny denim skirts, crop tops and tank tops; a look they 100% pull off. (Do you think we’re jealous much?!)

What they wear: As little as possible; crops tops, denim cut-offs, Havaianas, Roxy, and Seafolly bikinis.

Style icon: Alana Blanchard.

2088 (Mosman)

Preppy girls fill the streets of Mosman, showcasing their slender frames in the tightest of jeans, topped with long-sleeve, fitted tops and a Gillet if the weather’s a little chilly. Come summer, they step out in pretty tea-dresses and espadrilles; nailing mum-chic.

What they wear: Fitted Witchery white jeans, shirt dresses, Breton stripes, loafers and pearl earring. These girls shop in Saba, Seed (for their dinner-party wear) and Country Road for their everyday casuals.

Style icon: Olivia Palermo.

2150 (Parramatta)

These girls are the epitome of uber-glam and wouldn’t be seen dead without flawless makeup and perfectly manicured nails. Always keen to make a statement, Parramatta chicks don’t mind a bit of glitz and their local salon knows them by name, colour preference and magazine selection.

What they wear: Skyscraper stilettos, crop top and pencil skirt combos, Topshop everything, weekly blow dries, and arm candy in the form of equally polished boys.

Style icon: Cheyenne Tozzi.
