Some things just go together, like PB and jelly, and Posh and Becks, so this year we’ve teamed up with MINI to bring you, our discerning readers and drivers, our fortnightly MINI Fave 5 series: The must-try guide to Sydney, celebrating the launch of the new MINI 5-door hatch!
More than just surfers, tourists and mega-pubs, this seaside suburb in the north has some pretty delicious café fare too. So whether you’ve just stepped off the sand or the ferry, these cafes in Manly will give you your caffeine fix, brunch fix, and beachside fix all in the one go. Some would call it efficient, we just call it awesome.
Three Beans Café
Sure, there are quite a few Three Beans around Sydney, but it’s the commitment to quality and the damn fine (organic) coffee that makes it one of our faves. There are a tonne of healthy dishes on the menu including the surprisingly filling Californian quinoa and kale salad. Order a green machine smoothie if you’re in need of a vitamin hit or simply order a coffee and feel smug that you’ve found a great beachside café.
Showbox Coffee Brewers
This Manly café with a retro fit out is a popular choice among locals, and for good reason. The menu is eclectic but delicious (spaghetti bolognese on sourdough, anyone?), and there’s plenty of healthy options for those shredding for whatever reason. With coffee from Reuben Hills and muffins from Luxe, Showbox Coffee Brewers is a solid choice when in this beachside ‘burb.
Market Lane Cafe
A self-described eco-system, Market Lane is the café in Manly to eat, drink, chat and work. With coffee from Allpress and a healthy selection of muffins on display, find yourself a spot in the sun and watch the day go by (and even pat other people’s dogs if you’re so inclined).
Barefoot Coffee Traders
Specialty coffee and waffles? Yes, please! Barefoot Coffee Traders is a cute café in Manly that always seems to have people milling about the front—it’s probably because the coffee is some of the best in town. But don’t just stop at the coffee, order up on the waffles and yes, add choc, salted caramel AND ice cream because you’re worth it.
Fika Swedish Kitchen
Bringing a dash of Swedish culture to the Northern Beaches, this bright and cheery café in Manly serves up classic Swedish dishes like knäckebröd (crispbread with egg and Kalles cavier) as well as typical Aussie faves like poached eggs and avocado on sourdough. Head in on a Saturday and treat yourself to a loaded up Nutorious muffin—they’re ridic.
We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Sydney. From food to fashion, Campari to Crossfit, each Fave 5 edition is researched and recommended by The Urban List, and driven by the new MINI 5-Door Hatch—putting the city at your fingertips and giving you the freedom to explore it!
