Let’s Get Quizzical | Where To Join A Trivia Night On The Gold Coast

By Brooke Darling - 25 Apr 2016

There are few better ways to beat the mid-working week blues than hitting up a trivia night.

In addition to the top pub (or restaurant) grub, drink specials, and prizes on offer, there’s an opportunity to show off your obscure knowledge on everything from medieval history to world politics, football, and Justin Bieber.

So you don’t waste another mind-numbing night on the couch watching Netflix, why not test how many useless interesting facts you’ve collected in the dark recesses of your brain at some of the best trivia nights on the Gold Coast.

Not Tonight | Wednesday Nights

An overwhelming fave with northern Coasties, Not Tonight’s trivia night is so popular it’s now the bar’s busiest night of the week, with extra seats shuttled in from their friends down at 42Fifteen café. Just as you’d expect with this cheeky crew, things are not always politically correct and it’s not unheard of to see teams with tied scores apple bobbing on their knees to decide a winner. Laughs all round? You bet. And with a whopping 60 different craft beers to help lubricate your brain cells, you’d best be rock-paper-scissoring who will assume the role of designated driver before booking your seats. #notme

Detail: 7pm start, max 6 people per team, free entry though bookings essential
Where: 50B Nerang Street, Southport

Harvest Moon | Wednesday Nights

Harvest who? For those not already in the know, we’re here to help you out. Harvest Moon is one of Burleigh Head’s best kept secrets. Tucked down a James Street side alley, this loungy restaurant boasts genuinely welcoming service, chill vibes, an impressive espresso martini list, and a hint of Middle Eastern infiltrating their creative share plate menu. So, if you need extra reason to visit, we reckon Wednesday night trivia is as good an excuse as any. Come early for live music before and throughout the night, meal and drink specials, and spots prizes, plus the winning table gets an $80 tab to spend at trivia the following week. This joint could just become your new fave for an off-the-radar dinner date.

Details: 7:30pm start, 4—6 people per team, free entry
Where: 30 James Street, Burleigh Heads

Justin Lane Establishment | Wednesday Nights

Justin Lane needs little introduction. But perhaps you didn’t know the cool crew at JL also hosts one of the Coast’s most kick-arse trivia nights. Held upstairs in their chic event space, it’s always a fun night out with drinks and wood-fired pizza flowing. Your $1 entry donation goes into the jackpot jar, with a “jackpot question” asked at the conclusion of the night. Last week someone took home the monster $700 jackpot by correctly answering this question: the lady who invented chocolate chip cookies sold her idea to Nestlé Toll House, in return for what? Would you know the answer?

Details: 7pm start, no limit to team size, $1 entry
Where: 1708—1710 Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads

Vintage Espresso | Second Friday Night of the Month

A relatively new addition to the best trivia nights on the Gold Coast, the team at Vintage Espresso appear to have one-upped the others with an inclusive night of food and entertainment AND knowing the next day is not a school night. For $35 per head you’ll get a three-course meal (next month’s cuisine theme is Italian), entertainment, awesome spot prizes, and when the trivia gets underway they’re dishing out prizes for first and second runners up too. The best part? It’s freakin’ BYO. You beawty!

Details: 6:30pm start, $35 per person includes dinner, bookings essential
Where: 43 Alfred Street, Mermaid Beach

Nobbys Arc | Tuesday Nights

Rather than the usual weekend visit to Nobbys Arc for “just one beer”, we’re suggesting you USE your brain cells, not kill them, by hitting up Tuesday trivia night instead. Hosted by Rod McLeod from 92.5FM, you’ll be treated to giveaways, $5 beer and vinos, and $15 pizza specials, with the brainiest of the bunch taking home a $50 voucher. At night’s end, the winners have an extra “beat the bartender challenge”, while your entry fee goes into the monthly prize pool, with the last jackpot winner taking home a very tidy 1000 bucks.

When: 7pm start, no limit to team size, $15 entry per team
Where: 28 Chairlift Avenue, Nobby Beach

Night Caps | Thursday Nights

Perhaps you’re scratching your head. Where the hell is Night Caps? Yep, Miami café, otherwise known as Caffeine Kings by day has recently landed itself a liquor license and is now opening Thursday to Sunday nights. They’ve also added Thursday Night Trivia to the agenda, with themes varying from a mixed bag of random questions to theme nights like Seinfeld or The Simpsons. You should probably head straight for their epic espresso martinis if you need a helping hand kicking your end-of-working-week brain into gear.

Details: 7pm start, no limit to group size, free entry
Where: 1920 Gold Coast Highway, Miami
