Awesome Things To Do On The Gold Coast This Week

Well, aren’t we just flying through January?! If this month were a car, we’d be slamming our foot down trying to slow this shiz down.

But, then again, we’d be missing out on these awesome events happening this week on the Gold Coast. And we wouldn’t want to do that now, would we?

From hospo nights, to elite-level surfing events, Australia Day parties, and pre-Luna New Year shindigs, this week is shaping up to be a doozy, in the best possible way.

Franc’s Final Hurrah And Hospitality Night | Wednesday 25

It’s not often we like to commemorate the end of an era and saying goodbye to a favourite. Franc’s Bistro and Franc’s Deli & Wine, and previous to that Espanas, offered next-level cuisine in the Broadbeach precinct and we are truly sad to see them go. We expect the GC hospitality crew will be out in force to celebrate talented young chef Harry and his beautiful family. Hospo folk, or anyone for that matter, swing your toosh down to Broady on Wednesday evening for their final hospo night and give this family the send off they deserve—no excuses, Thursday is a holiday! Their last night is Saturday and we wait with baited breath to see where this fine local talent pops up next.

Miami Marketta Tapas Club And Vintage Markets | Wednesday 25

If this mid-week holiday has you all confused, make it feel like a Friday night with a visit to Miami Marketta. Miami Marketta’s regular Wednesday night tapas club will be bolstered on the eve of Australia Day. Come for a multi-cultural selection of $8 tapas plates, live music from Free the Genie and DJ Flyfingaz, plus access to all the in-house local designers, a Studio 56 art exhibition, Shave for a Cure fundraiser, and the vintage Rabbit Radio Rummage. Struth! Those good vibes come for free.

Australia Day | Thursday 26

Australia Day has arrived, and with it a smorgasbord of parties, good times, and of course, the Hottest 100. If you don’t already have a backyard BBQ or mate’s pool party lined up, we’ve shared our top picks of where to celebrate this Australia Day on the Gold Coast. Check out all the deets here.

Burleigh Pro | Thursday 26 to Sunday 29

This World Surf League sanctioned men’s and women’s event will see some of the best surfers on the planet, along with many talented locals, descend on Burleigh’s much-loved right hand point break. Burleigh Hill will be one of the best seats in the house from which to catch all the wave-slashing action of the Burleigh Pro, which is a warm-up event for the Quiky Pro returning to Snapper Rocks in March.

Aloha Bar And Dining’s First Birthday Soiree | Friday 27

Happy freakin’ birthday, Aloha! We were never quite sure if you’d make it to the ripe old age of one, but here we are! Can we all agree the past 12 months of #goldcoastlife would not be the same without pineapple selfies and treasure chest share cocktails? Honestly though, you just can’t NOT have a good time at Aloha. To help the team celebrate this milestone, you’re invited to dig out your most offensive Hawaiian shirt and swing by for prizes, giveaways, tasty eats (*cough* poke bowls), and disco choons by Leisure Guide. She’s a pop-up concept after all, so we can never be too sure when the doors will close for good.

EMF Performance Centre Grand Opening | Saturday 28 and Sunday 29

EMF’s high-tech new 3,000 square metre EMF Performance Centre has been a long time in development at Robina Town Centre. You’re invited for a weekend of free fitness classes, including the WORLD’S FIRST 25-metre altitude swimming pool and altitude training room, which they say offers the equivalent of multiple workouts in one. Sign us up! Good luck giving into temptation afterwards and undoing all your hard labour at The Kitchens. Kidding though, there are a ton of epic re-fuel and protein-loaded treats to feed your muscles post sweat-sesh.

Tamborine Mountain BBQ And Street Food Festival | Saturday 28

After a warm community embrace of their first Tamborine Mountain BBQ and Street Food Festival, the food trucks, craft and fashion stalls, and local musos are running for the hills again this weekend. We reckon you beach bums often forget about this verdant green belt in our backyard, so round up the friends or fam bam and make tracks for this delightful new market. Popping up in the grounds of Witches Cheese Chase and Fortitude Brewery between 3pm to 9pm.

Ozfest | Saturday 28

Keeping patriotic locals in the spirit post Australia Day, Gold Coast’s very own pop-up music festival returns to the Miami Tavern for its fourth instalment. Ozfest promises to be bigger and better with live tunes from Brissie talents Ball Park Music, indie rockers British India, Urthboy, Hockey Dad, and more. Helloooo summer!

Kung Fu Dumpling Party | Saturday 28

Ain’t no party like a dumpling party. Hang on, did we just make that up? QT Gold Coast’s Stingray Lounge will use any excuse to throw a party and the upcoming Luna New Year is no exception. Feed yo’ face with $3 handmade dumplings that are steamed before your eyes, washed down with Asian fusion cocktails, all while you shimmy to those energetic dragon dancers. As they always like to say at Stingray, dress to impress y’all!
