ANZAC Day is a day for honouring the contributions that our soldiers have made to our country. But as the dawn services wrap up around Sydney we won’t blame you for turning your efforts towards your stomach.
Let’s be honest—we all go searching for our first caffeine hit of the day post dawn service and just so you don’t have to turn into a caffeine starved maniac, we have put together a list of the cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs that will be open in Sydney this ANZAC Day. We’re good like that.
The Hounds of Hunters Hill will be serving up smiles and soy lattes from 8am-2pm on Monday. Hot tip: order the fruit toast. I repeat, order the fruit toast.
Barista & Cook
One of the new kids on Sydney’s block, Barista & Cook want to start your relationship right and take care of you this ANZAC Day. They’ll be open 8am-3pm.
The guys behind Devon Cafe know what you want this ANZAC Day and will be open from 8am until 3:30pm.
Devon on Danks
Annnnd it’s a similar story over at their little brother, also open from 8am-3.30am.
Ironwood Coffee Co.
It’ll be business as usual at this waterside Sydney Café, open 7am-4pm.
Thank the public holiday gods, urban dwellers won’t have to go even one day without their fix of Three Williams’ burgers and brews. They’ll be open 7am-4pm.
Cookies and caffeine from 8am - 4pm. ‘Nuff said.
Bread and Circus Wholefoods Canteen
Feeling a bit healthier this ANZAC Day? Head to Bread and Circus between 7am and 4pm.
Because they make their own bread, chocolate (seriously), coconut yoghurt and vegan cheesecakes. Plenty of reasons to visit Youeni between 7.30am and 3.30pm.
For a sneaky morning caffeine fix on the way home from your local dawn service, Pilgrims will be open for takeaway coffees only.
Ricotta hotcakes all damn day – Bills will be open from 7.30am until late.
Felix is so keen that they’re open for two sittings on ANZAC Day. French fare from midday until 3pm, then again between 5.30pm and 10.30pm.
Quick bites and fresh fish will be available between midday and 10pm on Monday.
Huddle around a communal table with the family and a feast of rotisserie meats a la Sunday roast. The Paddington will be open from midday until midnight.
The bar will be open between 5pm and 11pm. So don’t head down anticipating a cheeseburger spring roll. Do go down for a ‘Hongo Bongo’ cocktail instead.
Afternoon bevvies are on at Papi Chulo this ANZAC Day, open between midday and 10pm.
If you’re heading to the theatre this ANZAC Day, consider arriving a couple of hours early for dinner at Aria, open from 5.30pm. You deserve it.
Fresh from the herb garden, CHISWICK will be open for lunch and dinner this Monday.
North Bondi Fish
Chowing down on fish and chips while overlooking Bondi Beach is a fitting ANZAC Day situation, we think. They’ll be open for lunch and dinner.
CHISWICK at the Gallery
For a dose of sophistication and seasonal fare, CHISWICK at the Gallery will be open for lunch only.
Hidden gem, Mr Wong will be open for lunch (12pm-3pm) and dinner (5.30pm-11pm) this Monday.
It’s all systems go this ANZAC Day at PappaRich, open as per their usual hours (at all locations).
Bars & Pubs
The Light Brigade
Iconic Australian pubs make for a quintessential ANZAC Day ‘do and The Light Brigade are open from 10am until midnight.
Tranny Two Up (yes, really), ANZACs tap takeover and BBQ rolls will be on from 11am in the beer garden.
Taking good care of the early birds, Coogee Pavilion will be open early from 5:30am. For everyone else, they’ll be open until midnight.
And for an ANZAC Day overlooking the beach, The Rooftop will be open from midday until midnight.
Open for breakfast from 7am, Establishment will also re-open from midday and kicking on till late.
Palmer and Co
To embrace the prohibition vibes on Monday, Palmer and Co. will have you quaffing ‘Hanky Punk’ cocktails between 5pm-3am.
The shiny and new pub in the heart of Norton Street will be open between 10am and 3am on Monday.
Two Up and $5 schooners of Carlton is happening at this Surry Hills hotel on ANZAC Day. 50c from every Carlton sold donated to Legacy.
The Erskineville Hotel
The Erko will have Two Up, chicken wings and community vibes happening this ANZAC Day.
Live Entertainment, Two Up in the carpark, a cookie eating competition and local beer tins sold from the shipping container bar out back—the Public House will certainly have all the bases covered on Monday.
The Swanson Hotel
As extreme as it sounds, The Swanson will have a Two Up Grand Arena from 11am until sundown. Get. On. That.
The Balmain Hotel
For endless flowing coldies and a menu chocked with modern day pub classics, The Balmain Hotel will be open from 10am. Two Up kicks off at midday.
