At around this time of year, the farmers and producers of the Scenic Rim would usually be gearing up for Eat Local Week, a delicious celebration of everything grown, harvested, bottled, boxed and created in the Scenic Rim. Since lockdown measures have put a stop to our visits out to the region, the Scenic Rim Regional Council and a heap of local farmers and producers have joined forces to ensure we can still get our hands on all the amazing goodies they produce with the Scenic Rim Farm Box.
This ‘farm to you’ grocery delivery will bring you the region’s best fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs, cheese, milk, meats, wine, beer and coffee direct to your door, allowing you to eat local and support a region that’s missing it’s day trippers, weekenders and holiday makers as much as any other. Because this box is more than just a box of groceries—it’s also a lifeline to connect customers with the people of the Scenic Rim.
Though the final list of suppliers who’ll be contributing to the boxes is yet to be announced, we’ve had a sneak peek and can tell you it’s one to drool over. With cheese and butter from Tommerup’s Dairy Farm, beer from the Scenic Rim Brewery, wine from The Overflow Estate 1895 (among others), double smoked bacon from The Butcher Co, finger limes from The Lime Caviar Company and fresh vegetables from Kalfresh Vegetables, the hard part will be not ordering one of everything.
Best of all, the farm box isn’t just a temporary initiative for the current lockdown—it’s a year-long, permanent offer, so if you decide you need to have Tommerup’s Dairy Farm’s cultured butter in your fridge permanently in your fridge from now on, you can.
The first deliveries will be going out in early May, but you can register your interest in being one of the first people to order here. You’ll then be notified when the online farm shop goes live, with deliveries available to the Brisbane region for now, and others soon to come.
In the meantime, start planning your next weekend in the Scenic Rim (when we can travel again) here.
