We’re only one month in, so is it too early to call it? Because our bellies are telling us that 2018 is the best damn foodie year of all time—too far?
So far, we’ve broken news of a new plant-based marketplace coming to Miami, wrapped our mouths around waffles and Wagon Wheel Doughnuts and now, NOW, we’ve just found out a chilli festival is coming to the Gold Coast. Hot damn!
Okay firstly, let’s be honest, it’s actually happening in Chinderah, but that’s only a stone’s throw across the border and a shorter drive for many of us than a traffic light-laden trek to Broadbeach.
Perfect for chilli diehards, Chinderah’s Flavour and Fire Chilli Festival is popping up in this riverside country township on Saturday 3 March, with proceeds generously going to local charities. A not-to-be-missed gathering of all things chilli-related, the inaugural one-day festival will feature street food trucks serving up spicy dishes, chilli sauce and chutney stands, stalls selling chilli seeds and plants, a sample station for chilli chocolate (yum!), plus an array of free entertainment, activities for the kidlets and a licensed bar to soothe those burning throats.
To spice things up even more (see what we did there?), you can also challenge yourself to one of Seatonfire’s chilli eating competitions—ouch! The local fire brigade will even be on hand if competitors suffer a fiery overdose. To stay in the loop, follow the festival online here. And BYO milk.
When: Saturday 3 March; 12pm to 6pm
Where: Cudgen Leagues Club, 3 Wommin Bay Road, Cudgen
Cost: $1 entry with monies raised going to the local SES and Scouts ($20 to enter chilli eating competitions, seats limited)
Need to fill up some time between now and March? We’ve got you! Check out these events happening throughout February.
