This is not a drill—we’re all about to experience the milestone that is heading into the roaring twenties, 2.0 edition. The question is, in what epic style will you bring in both the new year and the beginning of this new decade?
Let’s unpack this —you’re stepping (or stumbling) into 1 January 2020, still buzzing from the night before. Do you stop there? We would hope not. In our opinion, the first day of a new era should be an event that goes down in the history books, and something you fondly reminisce over for years to come. That’s why starting as you mean to continue is our mantra in a situation like this.
Partying beachside into the fairy floss Perth sunset at Cuban Club in North Fremantle will hands-down provide the New Year’s Day kick-ons you’re after. Starting from 1.30pm, the doors will open to a day filled with the funky riffs and smiling synths of live music, Cuban eats (think Mexican slaw and chipotle sliders, a taco station and slow-cooked glazed pork), and all the summer flavours you could ask for in the form of Pimms, Tanqueray gin and tonic and rum swizzle cocktails.
Setting the scene will be artists like indie-pop duo, Client Liaison, whose dance floor hit “The Real Thing” was described by Triple J as, “a brighter, glossier four-to-floor that’s like a musical motivational poster”. Female group, House of F.A.D.J., will also be spinning beats, while the guys from Filament Coffee will keep your energy levels high with their nitrogen-infused cold brew.
In terms of what to wear, gals can rock a flair playsuit, maxi dress or layers of linen—block colours are key—and the lads should opt for collared shirts with short sleeves (fair enough on a probable summer scorcher) and chino slacks or shorts. We love a solid pair of denim jeans, but this occasion will require something that screams ‘Caribbean vacay’.
On top of that, The Nest Hair boutique will be open in the Revive Bar to revitalise wind-swept locks, and the Barber Collective will have all pixie cuts and fades looking absolutely shmick. We should also note that if you book your tickets now you can score 20% off Tigerlily’s full-priced items until 1 January 2020—hello, discounts.
Although the wind-down will be at 9pm, have no fear, because there’s an after-party in the works, which Cuban Club is soon to announce. New Year’s Day has never sounded so good.
