It may only be April but the cold weather is certainly upon us. And while most years, we’d happily comfort ourselves with bowls of pasta and go into hibernation, this year we’ve found some other (less calorie inducing) ways to get us through. From cosy knits and candles, to fitness classes that are sure to get the blood pumping, here are ten things to add to your cold weather hit list in Sydney.
There’s nothing we love more than a good cup of tea, particularly when it comes packaged in beautiful amber glass jars we can re-use as vases. Welcome T Totaler, the Newtown-based company that’s doing a roaring trade in herbal, black, white and green tea. For those who like to keep things local, they also offer a 100% Australian grown range, as well as interactive classes where you can blend your own tonic. Stop into their King Street store or find T Totaler at various farmers’ markets around Sydney.
The Brow Bar
Traditionally winter may be the time to let yourself go (hairwise), but not this year. The Brow Bar will keep you feeling primed and pampered all season, with their premium lash, brow and makeup services. One of the best beauty salons in Sydney, The Brow Bar’s Chernae Silk is Australia’s Brow Whisperer, and has worked her magic on many famous brows.
If you’re going to try and keep healthy this winter, then you’ll need to stock up on some nourishing snacks. Luckily, Fit Mixes has arrived offering Sydneysiders a range of protein ball mixes with flavours like chocolate and chia, vanilla and coconut and cookie dough. Yum!
There’s nothing worse than feeling white and pasty throughout winter. And because we like to fake it till we make it, we’ve become frequent visitors to the lovely Tan Temple at Bondi Beach. With that newfound golden glow, you’ll walk out feeling like a million bucks!
Need to pull yourself out of hibernation? We recommend sweating it out and getting educated at CrossFit Ignite in Waterloo. These guys seriously know their stuff, and give you the option of choosing either shared or one-on-one training. At CrossFit Ignite the focus is on personalised workouts and nutrition guidance, which are best suited to your goals and needs.
We can’t get enough of these handmade scented candles! The brainchild of Elise Pioche Balzac, the Maison Balzac collection pays homage to childhood memories growing up in the South of France. Personal favourites include La Rose and her recent collaboration with Doctor Lisa Cooper, 1962.
One of the best things about winter is layering up with cosy knits. Needless to say we’re stocking up on Jac+ Jack cashmere. Irresistibly soft, these luxurious knits are definitely worth the investment, and bound to get you through season after season. We love the colour range this season, which features clay, charcoal, and pale blue.
A trip to ThaSpa will make you feel as though you’ve been on a six-week vacation without ever leaving the city. Their range of massages will fix every ailment from head to toe, while a host of beauty treatments will help you relax and unwind. The Spa Sauna Wrap, aromatherapy massage and Thalgo Marine Scrub are just some of the specialised treatments that keep us coming back for more.
Everyone knows the importance of looking after our skin, particularly in winter. Hailing from Stockholm, this minimal (yes, we’re big fans) skincare regime will keep your skin looking younger and healthier, as it works to reduce wrinkles and pigmentation. The range includes everything from a foaming cleanser, to night cream and eye serum and is available at Mecca Cosmetica.
Cultiver Bed Linen
Nothing says winter quite like a freshly made bed. And the good people at Cultiver have created a range of luxurious 100% linen bedding, which will make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud. The range includes sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers, in a collection of beautiful colours that can you can mix and match. We’re thinking a blush duvet with smoke grey sheets.
