Here are 13 of the coolest, most awesome, (and most importantly) free things to do this month in Sydney.
Sydney Road Gallery
If you don’t get out to see art that often because you’re time poor (or just money poor), save your excuses for another day mate because Sydney Road Gallery is hosting free, we repeat FREE, art exhibitions this month. The two new exhibitions “The View of Two” and “Love Is” celebrate summer and love. 100% cute, and ICYMI, 100% free! So take some #me time this month and get inspired.

If you haven’t heard about Sunset20°N, get out from under that rock and listen up! A totally free festival is heading our way Sydney, in a kind of nod to Barangaroo and the story behind it. Your February weekends are officially locked and loaded with acts like Sampa the Great and Okenyo to see. Sunset20°N is also all about dat food, showcasing a different female guest chef each weekend. Hoy Pinoy’s Sydney Summer BBQ
Prepare your bodies, people. A great big Filipino BBQ is headed for Sydney and, oooooh yeah, we are more than ready for this one. If you’re unaccustomed to the Hoy Pinoy offerings, expect to be munching on some of the best Filipino street food you’ll taste, outside of the Philippines, that is. Think pork skewers drenched in banana ketchup and chicken skewers with a soy glaze. For your vegan friends, there will be a token salad that actually looks damn good—hello grilled pineapple goodness.

The legends at the Seymour Centre are putting on free shows throughout summer in celebration of Mardi Gras. Enjoy this Feb heat and spend your Friday nights kicking back in the leafy courtyard, drink in hand, vibing on some new and upcoming live music.

Sunday Sundown At Coogee Pavilion
Don’t be stuck on your couch this Sunday arvo when you could be sippin’ cider on Coogee Pavilion’s rooftop with their February resident DJ, Client Liaison. There is literally no time more perfect to get your boogie on in the Sydney sunshine, and what makes life even sweeter is the fact these Sunday sessions are totally free—well those 4 espresso martinis aren’t exactly… But entry is.

The Argyle’s Summer Series
For the final Summer Series, The Argyle is heating up with a desert oasis themed night of tunes and cocktails, over note one by two epic nights. Tunes from Throttle, Jesabel and Mike Champion will have you set allll the way into the early hours of the morning, so get right up on that guest list here.

Lazy Sundays Women’s Picnic
Sundays were made for relaxing in parks and being fed fresh fruit and mocktails, right? This ladies only picnic is part of ACON’s #TalkTouchTest breast cancer campaign, so for a hella important cause you’ll be able to listen to chill beats, eat free fruit and play games of soccer and backyard cricket with your kids, dogs and gal pals. All LGBTQI women are welcome!

Mega babe, Matt Okine, is hosting The Galeries Taste Tournament in celebration of the Lunar New Year this February. Be sure to check it out cause’ it’s bound to be hilarious and delicious—oh hey free dishes from Grill’d, Lotus, Chat Thai and Jimmy’s Recipe.

Chinese New Year Lantern Festival
If you do one thing this February, check out the Chinese New Year lunar lanterns across Sydney. Across The Rocks you’ll find inflatable and glowing rabbits, sheep and monkeys that are bloody enormous and super festive. Find their exact locations here.

Lunar New Year At Parramatta
Each year, Paramatta welcomes the Lunar New Year with a festival that celebrates cultures, dancing and delicious food. With a bunch of tasty stalls to choose from, your entire night is set with cooking classes, lantern making and performances, oh and did we mention out of this world food stalls?
When: Friday 16 February, 5pm till 9pm
Where: Centenary Square, Parramatta
Pack your picnic rugs, a cheese platter and some vino because Tropfest is back this year and we’re excited. Celebrating independent film and culture, Tropfest is going to rock your socks with a huge number of entries that will have you laughing, crying and certainly feeling the feels.

Where: The Crescent, Parramatta Park
Mardi Gras Fair Day
So there’s a totally free explosion of rainbows and happiness going down this year, and it’s happening at the 2018 Mardi Gras Fair Day. This is the ultimate festival for literally everyone, with a doggo competition, drag queens, OMG worthy food stalls and a tonne of free entertainment. Head here for more info.

Chatswood Chinese New Year Festival
Leave the house hungry and come home groaning (it’s really the only way to do Chinese New Year). Hit up Chatswood this Lunar New Year with a huuuuge line up of food stalls to get in on. Our advice is to get a dish from each stall and don’t stop eating until you’ve gone up two pant sizes. Details here.

Queer Art After Hours
If you haven’t been to our beloved art gallery in a while, there is seriously no better time than this month. Queer Art After Hours sees gallery tours, live music and fabulous drinks all going down at the Art Gallery of NSW—and it won’t cost you a penny!
