They say that the best summer bodies are made in winter, so put down that slice of pepperoni pizza and get your (future) fine self into one of the best places to work out in Sydney. Whether you’re looking to bulk up, slim down or just get a bit more fit, these are ten of your favourite places to exercise, as voted by you.

#1 Xtend Barre, CBD

We all know that strong is the new skinny, and the team at Xtend Barre have a workout that will get you nice and sweaty on your way to fitness perfection. Combining dance, ballet and Pilates, you’ll strengthen, lengthen (yes please) and most importantly chisel your bod to a whole new level, which will not only have you feeling fabulous but also saying a big fat ‘oh hello’ to your new abs.

#2 Sydney Pole, Annandale

Pole dancing is a pretty incredible workout and one we are told you don’t need to be overly flexible for, so that’s already a big tick in our book. With free trial classes for first timers, guys and girls can give it a commitment free whirl before signing up, and did we mention they throw pole class parties? So it’s perfect for practicing our party trick.

#3 F45, Glebe

Put those spare 45 minutes to good use at F45 Glebe. Think lean, fast and powerful as you sculpt your abs and tone your buns during one of their high intensity workouts. You’re expected to burn anywhere from 600 – 1000 calories per workout and the friendly folk will also help you with your eating plan, meaning you’re seriously maximising those 45 minutes.

#4 The Pole Parlour, Gladesville

These guys pride themselves on their ‘anyone can do it’ mantra, so whether you’re 17 or 60 (yes they have 60 year old students), everyone starts as a beginner at The Pole Parlour. The savvy team here take every student through a beginners class on the first lesson, so you learn all the tricks of the trade correctly from day one, and are then placed in the right class for you.

#5 Cross Fit, Bondi

Forget what you think you know about Cross Fit because this Bondi gym is throwing that on its head, with their unique tailored approach to exercise. With no joining free and a complete lack of floor to ceiling mirrors, you can ease yourself into the Cross Fit world with one of their free trial classes as well as a complete beginners course, so your newbie status is no longer an excuse not to give it a go.

#6 Lava Yoga, Bondi Junction and Maroubra

In case you hadn’t guessed, with a name like Lava Yoga these guys specialise in hot yoga. Their studios use fresh air to create a warming oasis and boast stunning wooden floors. This is a go to for bikram but also for lavacore (hot hatha yoga) and yin yoga, a gentler more meditative style. And because you’ll be getting nice and hot, there are deluxe travertine showers and hair straighteners at your disposal.

#7 Vigorous Fitness, Castle Hill

Whether safety in numbers is central to your exercise regime or you’re more of a one on one kind of athlete, Vigorous Fitness in Castle Hill has just the class for you. Specialising in both personal training and group fitness you can take a class to target legs, bums and tums, aka the usual suspects, or even smash those cold winter mornings with a boot camp. Alternatively why not try a tailored one on one session to get you back in the game.

#8 At Rubens, Marrickville

Employing a holistic approach to their workouts (and weight loss) At Rubens combines a range of exercises to have you reaching your fitness goals. With Spin Beats, Dynamic Yoga, 30 minute SFX classes, we’re talking a fast paced high intensity workout that can even be done on your lunchbreak, you know if you’re keen beans. They’ll even throw in some nutrition advice for good measure and bam, you have your new healthy lifestyle sorted.

#9 Beachfit, Bondi

This is the type of gym and yoga studio your Instafeed has been waiting for. The space is perfect for your next #fitspo selfie, complete with a retractable roof, exposed bricks and some rather impressive feature lighting. There’s also state of the art gym equipment, including an indoor sled track, and beach flow and aerial yoga classes ready for you to try.

#10 Physicore, Paddington, Surry Hills and Mosman

The one and only home of the Megaformer class, that’s 50 minutes of high intensity core training (kind of like super intense Pilates), these guys are all about results. With their all over body workout of slow, controlled movements, you can expect to burn up to 600 calories per session. Now 600 calories a session is pretty great but what we’re really excited about is a little something they like to call EPOC or excess post exercise oxygen consumption. A common side effect from a Megaformer class and one that means you can expect to continue burning fat for 24 hours after your workout, we don’t know about you guys but, to us, that’s a definite win.
