Foodie Event Not to Miss: New Farm Goes Indo-Pacific!

By Jessica Pridmore - 19 Sep 2014

With spring in the air and a sting well and truly back in the sun's rays, us greedy little Brisbanite's are after some summery tasting fare that's a little kinder on our post-winter waistbands! Summer food is all about freshness and big flavours, and cutting out all that oh-so delicious stodge we have lived off for the last few months. Trust us, when the mercury tops 35 degrees and the pavement melts your jelly shoes you won't want to be face first into a hearty stew. Fact!

New Farm restaurants are a melting pot mash-up of cuisines and ever-changing menus, ranging from your humble burger joint, right up to posh nosh Modern Aussie. Some menus come and go, and some never change, but that's what we love about 'The Farm'. So when rumour hit our desks of a limited run Indo-Pacific menu taking over the kitchen of one of our fave New Farm restaurant, we got pretty damn excited!

Spicers Balfour Kitchen, which we are in a long–time love affair with (not only do they feature in our top 50 meals in Brisbane feature, but also our best breakfasts round up!), has come out of left field, switching up the Euro dishes for the gutsy spice and flair of the Indo-Pacific. And when one of Brisbane's best restaurants takes on an already delicious cuisine, you know the results are going to be good!

Simple and delicious has been Spicers Balfour Kitchen's motto from day dot, winning over the hearts and stomachs of locals (you won't find molecular orange mousse or charred soil crumbs here), but with the change of season comes a fun new direction. The menu is an exciting and bold move for the New Farm restaurant; the perfect flavours to put in your gob this summer!

Don't believe us? Try the shredded pork on betel leaves, and the Wild Barra in a vindaloo sauce, then get back to us with your thoughts. And don't you dare say no to dessert! The Valrhona Chocolate marquise with dried chocolate crumble, red berry cream and chilli sugar is seriously indulgent. Just. Say. Yes!
