So it’s March already, guys. Nobody panic. It was only Christmas like five minutes ago, but that’s cool. The good news however, is there are loads of rad things happening in Perth this month, from local markets, community fairs, art exhibitions and live outdoor music.
Here are the 11 of the best free events happening in Perth this March.
Mount Hawthorn Hawkers Market
Every Friday in March
This is last month the Mount Hawthorn Hawkers Markets will be running, so make the most of it and get down to this rad weekly event. If you do feel like ‘splurging’ (and by splurging, we mean spending about ten bucks) you can grab your dinner from one of the pop-up food stalls. But if not, you can still have a delightful evening kicking back on the grass with your picnic rug and wine and listening to the free live music.
Sculpture By The Sea
Friday 3—Monday 20 March, Cottesloe
The 13th annual Sculpture by the Sea event is returning to Cottesloe and it's set to be better than ever! The exhibition is featured from the sea wall all the way along the sand towards North Cottesloe and on the surrounding grassed area. There will be works from more than 75 artists both nationally and internationally so head down for a swim and a gander.
Make Your Mark On Northbridge
Saturday 4 March, Northbridge
Come to Northbridge on Saturday 4 March to make your mark by helping paint part of a new mural created by Mel McVee. Mel has been commissioned by The City of Perth to create a new piece of art on the large wall behind The Game Sports Bar, facing onto Errichetti Place in Northbridge and she is inviting the people of Perth to help out! What a generous sort. As well as helping to paint, you’ll enjoy live music by Tanaya Harper and James Redman and free sliders courtesy of Varsity Burger. The Game will also be opening their roller door to the laneway and offering drink specials from 2—6pm.
Hyde Park Community Fair
Sunday 5 and Monday 6 March, North Perth
Did you know that the Hyde Park Community Fair is Perth's longest running free community event? It’s easy to see why, when it's so jam-packed with stuff to do. Arts, market stalls, international food, wine, craft beer, ciders, games, and live music and entertainment await you.
Neighbourhood BBQ On Labour Day
Monday 6 March, Northbridge
The family at Lot Twenty want to invite you to join them for a laid back BBQ and beers on Labour Day. How sweet! They’ve always been a warm, welcoming bunch. They’re offering everyone a free hot dog, plus loads of drink specials including beers, slushies and Bloody Mary’s. Kicking off at 12pm, we reckon you should get there right on time to make the most of the day!
Under The Bridge Food Trucks
Monday 6 and 13 March, Fremantle
The Under The Bridge Food Truck season is wrapping up, with only two more Monday nights left! Where has time gone? So get yourself to the East Street Jetty on a Monday night for a collection of Fremantle food trucks serving up tasty dinners with a killer sunset view.
Cambridge Street FestivalSaturday 11 March, Wembley
The ever-popular Cambridge Street Festival returns for another year, taking over the stretch of Cambridge Street between Simper and Jersey Streets. Kicking off at 3pm, there is a jam-packed program of entertainment including live music and street theatre, bustling pop-up market stalls, unique arts and crafts and loads of gourmet food.
Music By Moonlight
Sunday 12 March, Victoria Park
This is the 10th year the Music by Moonlight event has been running. It’s a free outdoor concert performed by the very talented people from the WA Youth Orchestra, on the banks of the Swan River. Can you imagine anything more picturesque? Bring your rugs, blankets, picnics and drinks—or buy a cheap as chips dinner from the local food trucks on site.
St Patrick’s Day Parade
Sunday 12 March, Leederville
Obviously, no March is complete without some St Patty’s Day shenanigans. The City of Vincent is once again painting their town green, with their St Patrick’s Day Parade making its way through Leederville and culminating at Medibank Oval where there’ll be a giant festival of everything Irish.
Mandurah Crab Fest
Saturday 18 March—Sunday 19 March, Mandurah's Eastern Foreshore
Mark your diaries, the Mandurah Crab Fest is back this March and we can’t wait. There’ll be crab as far as the eye can see, four epic foodie experiences, live music, competitions, cooking demonstrations and aquatic entertainment and loads of free events for all to enjoy.
Night Noodle Markets
Wednesday 22 March—Sunday 2 April, Elizabeth Quay
The Night Noodle Markets are back and better than ever! There will be 20 stalls dishing out delicious bites and for the first time EVER, Messina Gelato will be joining the ranks. Entry is free, so you can splurge on one of their epic desserts—we've got our eye on the Great Balls of Fryer!
Saturday 25 March, Whiteman Park
If you like being thrifty AND environmentally friendly, then this event is for you. EnviroFEST is a free event that teaches you how to be more sustainable at home. The event features renewable energy displays, native and organic seedlings for sale, workshops and a range of sustainable and healthy living products. You’ll be wondering why you weren’t more eco-friendly all along.
