Spring is in the air and love should be too, but Christmas is also on the horizon which likely means most of us are feeling a little strapped for cash. Sound like you? We’ve got your back.

Dishing up Eastern-inspired flavour bombs, Bivouac is always a good choice come date night. And you’ll be pleased to know you can also do it on the cheap as well. Whet your whistles with two of their G&Gs—London dry gin with grapefruit soda and rosemary—as you peruse the menu. Want to keep it to a neat 50? Order the chicken musakhan made with nine spices and served with babaganoush, braised leeks and preserved lemon, along with a side of their incredible fried potatoes. And for dessert, split the banana and chocolate cigar.
While we love going all out on Hadiqa’s Diffa menu with wine pairing, we can’t always be extra, which is why we’re happy to report you can still enjoy a delicious feast at this Middle Eastern joint on a dime. First up, grab all three dips (it’s too hard to choose just one), then pile your table high with the cauliflower, tahini and currants, the harissa falafel with preserved lemon and top it all off with the lamb shoulder served with apricot and sesame.
Sauma is making group dates super fun this September with their burgeoning Jumbo Thali. Designed to be shared between three to four (or two very hungry love birds), the huge platter of Indian street food features Sauma’s menu faves. Think pani puri, bindas bonda, butter chicken, palak paneer, raita, fresh-made naan, pickles, papadums and even gulab jamun for dessert. Share some fizzy water to wash it down and you have yourself a killer lunch date.
Our go-to for dates that don’t mind sharing, The Standard is perfect this time of year. Grab a seat on their rooftop out the back and order their salt and vinegar cassava crisps and Masala fried chicken with chilli salt, butter curry sauce and yoghurt to get things kicking off to a good start. Follow that up with their black pepper butter jumbo tiger prawns and Chef Rod’s incredible cauliflower, garlic and coconut fried rice with crispy fried egg. There’s nothing more romantic than sharing dessert, so go the honeycomb semifreddo with toasted milk cake, myrtle curd and limoncello and be ready to roll out of there on a high.
We predict that many Perth relationships saw their beginnings at Pinchos in Leederville, what with their cosy tables and Spanish wine. The menu is insanely affordable, with pintxos ranging from $1 to $4 a pop and starters, cured meats and salads for less than a tenner. You can even afford to grab a glass of Pinchos’ house wine in case you need a bit of liquid courage.
Sweetwater’s lush fit-out will get you feeling romantic, even if your date isn’t. You can’t go past their boneless beef massaman curry with Kipfler potatoes and chilli peanuts. Then, load up on the sides—the sweet corn and coriander fritters with sesame salt and wok-fried hor fun noodles with mushrooms and XO are goodies. And if things are really going well and you want to spend more time with your squeeze, order the melting chocolate dessert which takes 20 minutes to prepare.
After a long, romantic walk on the beach dust your sandy feet off and step into The Peach Pit for a casual date night you won’t have to put on credit. Order two burgers, which come with chips, so don’t stress about having to share, a jug of Pimms with strawberry, mint, lemon and ginger, and split the peanut butter brownie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. After all that, you’ll surely be getting a second date.
Dates with dogs are 1000 times better so head to The Guildford with your furry friends in tow. Skip straight to The Pitmaster Selection if you’re not afraid of getting food on your face and order the salt and pepper beef brisket with BBQ sauce and the half chicken with hot sauce. Served with mash, southern-style beans and pickles, you won’t be able to fit in anything else other than the honey joy cheesecake with dried raspberries. With whatever cash you have leftover, grab a pupsicle for your fluffy pals.
