A Brand New Restaurant Has Just Opened At Yagan Square

A new restaurant has just thrown its door open at Yagan Square and if the credentials are anything to go by, we’re pretty sure Ficus is going to impress.

Cantina 663 owner Paul Vanderplancke has teamed up with Kevin Opferkuch from Bunbury Farmers Market to create a new dining experience offering farm to plate values and delectable hearty dishes.

The pair met at Cantina and got to chatting about the lack of venues that incorporate seasonal produce into their meals and decided to come together and open a restaurant that does just that.

Ficus can now be found on the upper level at Yagan Square, with gorgeous views overlooking the CBD. The spot is filled with beautiful plants to give that natural vibe and the furniture has been made from 100-year-old recycled wood found in the Freo wool sheds.

The menu boasts dishes that only use top quality produce and caters to carnivores, vegetarians, vegans and those with gluten allergies. One of Perth’s top chefs, André Mahé is in charge of the kitchen and has created a modern Australian menu with a French influence designed to share with the table or enjoy alone.

If you’re looking to share, we recommend trying the Amelia Park lamb shoulder with hummus and tabouli salad. Not a fan of sharing? Try the duck leg confit with chorizo bean cassoulet and pommes anna. We always leave room for dessert and there’s no going past the chocolate delice with walnut biscuit and salted caramel ice cream.

The drinks are all sourced from local suppliers and the cocktail bar has plenty of variety to suit the whole group. Our top pick has to be the 666 Pure Vodka, a lethal cocktail that combines strawberry gum, vanilla, Rosé, blackberry, citrus and lemon leaf foam. For the gin lover, there’s a whole section dedicated to different spins on the classic gin and tonic. They’ve also packed the drinks menu with different reds, whites and sparking, along with a tone of uncommon beers—make sure you try the Rocky Ridge Peach Invasion.

Ficus is open Tuesday to Sunday from noon until late, so head down to enjoy a boozy lunch or delicious dinner.
