Get ready to have your mind blown, fellow people of Perth—Innovation Month is here and we’ve got the hot tip on the coolest events going down in Perth.
Running until 28 April, Innovation Month brings plenty of free frivolity to the streets of Perth. There will be fun film events, creative workshops, swing dancing, new media and a whole lot more.
Here’s how we think you should get your geek on during Innovation Month.
Swing Troopers
Swing dancing and storm troopers collide at this funtastical event in the Northbridge Piazza. Oz Big Band will provide the swinging Star Wars Cantina inspired tunes and there will be a free dance lesson at 7pm, themed performances and face painting. Dress in your Star Wars best and bring your dancing shoes!

Terrace Lights Outdoor Cinema
The Perth Concert Hall’s riverside veranda will be transformed into an outdoor cinema for one week during Innovation Month. Showing cult classics and quirky favourites like Ghostbusters, The Labyrinth, Jurassic Park, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Princess Bride, this cinema spectacle is not to be missed!

White Noise Underground
Journey underneath St Georges Terrace into a decommissioned tunnel at White Noise Underground. There will be curated media walls, daily projections, virtual reality workshops, film screenings, flamenco dancing and, our favourite, a pop-up bar! Electro duo Corbelle and Perth music producer Catlips will be spinning the decks from 6pm daily.

Floral Table Arrangement Workshop
Planning a birthday, wedding or dinner party? You do not want to miss this workshop led by Stacey from Beans & Bunches. You’ll get to uncover the art of arranging flowers for a beautiful table setting, learning the basic principles of floristry along the way. Places are limited, you’ll want to register quick smart!

Comics Jam
If live comic readings, drawing challenges, blackboard battles and old fashioned ink-to-paper fun are right up your alley, you are not going to want to miss Comics Jam. At this 18-plus event, you’ll get to rub shoulders with Perth comic book creators Luke Milton, Sarah Winifred Searle, Soolagna Majumdar, Campbell Whyte and Robert Buratti. Don’t forget your sketchbook!

We Love Food!
Ever wondered what a career in food would be like? At We Love Food you’ll get to hear all about it from three awesome Perth foodies—Lalla Rookh’s Joel Valvasori and the creative teams behind Chicho Gelato and The Hummus Club. This will be a panel discussion like no other because after all is said and done you’ll get to sample hummus and gelato, as well as network with other Perth food peeps. If you’re keen to hang around, The Great Chicken Wing Hunt will be screened from 8:30pm on the big screen in the Piazza.

Flower Crown Workshop
Who doesn’t love a flower crown? During this one-and-a-half-hour workshop Stacey from Beans & Bunches will take you through the ins and outs of making a boho style flower crown you can wear all the way home. She’ll go through wiring techniques and step-by-step instructions—you’ll be a flower crown making pro before time’s up! Register now to secure your spot.

Fresh Prints 2016
Celebrate everything to do with the printed word at this awesome market which brings zines, independent publishers, small press, artist books, comics and printed works to the Northbridge Piazza. Made You Look, a doco about creativity in the digital age, will be showing on the big screen, there will be a live storytelling, comics and watercolour lettering workshops, as well as fun for all ages.

Social Cinema Presents: Muriel’s Wedding
Originating in London, Social Cinema is all about bringing people together to experience film in a way they never have before. At this fun-filled film event, you’ll get to delve into Muriel’s world with dancing queens, weddings, stalls, live music and competitions, before the Aussie hit film is shown up on the Northbridge Piazza Super Screen.
