Lady Of Ro is easily one of my favourite spots in Perth thanks to the laid back vibe and seriously good Greek eats—the fact that it’s BYO certainly doesn’t hurt either. Owned by Subiaco locals Brian and Despina Tanner, it seems these guys (who also own Boucla next door) know exactly what the people of Subi want and need. Whether you’re after dinner with a big group of friends or something more intimate, Lady of Ro makes for the perfect spot.
Running late and feeling a bit frazzled on a recent visit, I was happy to sit back and let someone else do the ordering. We started with a few bites like olives, octopus and the freshest bread ever—I had to practice some serious willpower not to down every.single.piece. But trust me when I say you’ll want to save some room for the rest of the food.
The haloumi here is the stuff dreams are made of, I kid you not. I don’t know what kind of wizardry they are performing in the kitchen but it’s better than any other haloumi I have ever eaten. The octopus is another winning dish, so tender and flavoursome you’ll be begging for more, and the grilled asparagus is probably the most delicious way to get some greenery on your plate.
For mains you can’t go past the slow cooked lamb. It’s so tender it will just about fall apart before you even touch it. On a more recent visit, someone convinced me to try the chicken Florentine—not something I’d usually get excited about, but I devoured every buttery bite along with a side of broad beans and peas and had never felt more content!
I hate to admit that I’ve never managed to save room for dessert at Lady of Ro, the mains are just too good, but recently I’ve heard such good things about them that I’m already planning my next trip back.
These guys have gotten so popular lately that you’ll want to book to avoid disappointment, but luckily they have started seating people over at Boucla as well to make a bit of extra room.
