Last week, we ventured down to an unassuming little cafe in Perth called Source Foods and were promptly blown away by the incredible quality of the nosh being dished out.
Located on the corner of Brisbane and Beaufort Streets in Highgate, we were also really impressed with the stylish but casual vibes of this small, sustainably focussed cafe.
Boasting high ceilings, black wall tiles, gorgeous hanging lights, timber tables and a huge window at the front that lets in plenty of natural sunlight, the cafe oozes character—it’s the sort of place you could take your mum, best mate or business colleague and know you’re going to get an excellent meal and a damn fine cup of coffee.
With a philosophy around sustainable, organic and locally sourced food, the menu is one of the best around—stuffed full of hearty salads, burgers and sandwiches, and featuring plenty of good-looking all-day brekky offerings.
Some of the delectable dishes we tried included the pickled and roasted veggies with haloumi, pomegranate and walnuts; slow-cooked beef quesadillas; a smoked free-range chicken salad and a melt-in-your-mouth soy and orange glazed pulled pork sandwich with toasted brioche, kale slaw and pickled veg. Droooool!
It’s a simple but effective strategy that Source Foods owners Emma and Samuel Ainsworth have based their labour of love on—use fresh, local, organic and free-range products and let the ingredients shine.
The end result is tasty, fresh and wholesome food. And isn’t that what makes the best cafes?
The crew here also whip up a mean red espresso latte and some deliciously zingy juices and smoothies. Celiacs, vego’s, vegans and those with gluten and dairy allergies are also well catered for here. It really is the most welcoming of little cafes!
Open every day until 3pm, keep an eye out for dinner service opening soon. Until then, we suggest you pop into this Perth cafe for brekky or lunch—you won’t regret it!
