Opening its doors just a few weeks ago, Starfish Bar is Mount Lawley’s newest kid on the seafood block. Once just another kebab store, this shiny new venture has filled a gap in the heart of Beaufort Street, as the only (and much needed) seafood restaurant of its kind.
While a lot of seafood joints tend to focus on deep fried fare, the guys at Starfish Bar have an incredible grilled selection, some drool-worthy burgers and an epic range of salads, providing a well-balanced spin on the usual fish ‘n’ chip scenario. But never fear, if you're craving some squid rings and a big hunk of fried fish, Starfish won't disappoint. They've got a little bit of errythang!
Walking into the laid-back space, you can't miss the display of local, fresh seafood in the open air kitchen and the colourful salads. The goldband snapper was calling my name so I ordered that and watched the team whisk it away froim the display and grill it to perfection before topping it with a tomato, basil and onion salsa—a speciality they call The Spaniard—and it was spot on.
With a salad selection like theirs, it'd be rude not to pair your fish with at least one of these. The team at Starfish understands a little bit of soggy lettuce doesn't cut the mustard and so they serve theirs generously—from sweet potato and beetroot to Vietnamese noodle—the salads could easily be the star fo the show rather than just an afterthought.
If you've got a hankering for a burger but you're not sure what you feel like, we'd recommend ordering the trio of sliders and having yourself a little fish slider alongside a chicken one and a lamb one! That's right, Starfish Bar ain't no one trick pony, they do meat as well as fish and as it turns out, they do it dang well.
Aside from the delish eats, relaxed vibe and charming interior—think indoor pot plants, hanging light bulbs and simple furniture—the best thing about Starfish Bar is the endless array of options. Fried or grilled? Chips or salad? Dine-in or take-away? The choice is yours! The speedy service and healthy offering makes it an easy option on your lunch break, but it's just as good when you're after a slow and leisurely dining experience on the weekend.
