Sydney’s Best After-Work Drink Spots With A View

Whether you're grabbing a quick drink with your colleagues or starting a Friday night off right, after-work drinks at Barangaroo is a Sydney rite of passage.

From harbourside picnic spots to rooftop bars with a killer view, we’ve rounded up our seven favourite spots sure to put a smile on your face after the daily grind.

Smoke, Barangaroo House

Almost everywhere at Barangaroo is Instagrammable, but you can’t beat Smoke for spectacular sunset snaps. Taking over the rooftop at Barangaroo House, Smoke has an epic outlook over Sydney Harbour and boasts one of the most creative bar menus and cocktail lists in the city. Do yourself a favour and order the Lavender Negroni; lavender infused Bombay Sapphire gin with Campari and Regal Rogue wild rosé. Drool.

House Bar, Barangaroo House

While Smoke has you covered for sunset rooftop sessions, it’s House Bar’s waterfront terrace that’s got you sorted for chilled out harbourside vibes all. Day. Long. The beer selection is a mix of local and international favourites (with 12 available on tap), the cocktails are seasonal and the pitchers of spritzers are ideal to share. Built up an appetite? The chicken schnitzel bánh mì is a local fave.

NOLA Smokehouse and Bar

With sunset-friendly views over Jones Bay Wharf, NOLA Smokehouse and Bar is inspired by New Orleans culture, the flavours of Cajun and Creole cuisines, and good ol’ Southern BBQ. Think: an impressive cocktail list built on American whisky and bar snacks like grilled jalapeño cornbread, pulled pork mac ‘n’ cheese and chicken wings drenched in NOLA’s signature hot sauce. Serious whisky aficionados should make their way through the 8 different whiskey flights on offer.

12 Micron

A 230-seater restaurant, lounge and dessert bar in one, 12 Micron is one of the most exciting new dining concepts to come to Sydney. While the restaurant menu showcases some of the country’s most interesting native ingredients, it’s the bar that’s really got us at The Urban List salivating. For starters: the cocktail list (which focuses on two spectrums, smoky and sweet) is dominated by Australian ingredients, with their signature cocktails including The Smoking Chaplin (Plymouth sloe gin, apricot brandy, lime and rosella jam) and the Riberry Lily Tea with Rebellion Bay spiced rum, Orgeat (almond syrup with flower water), Spicy Chilli Cinnamon Vedrenne, lime and riberry confit, made from the native Australian berry. Vino more your thing? The wine list is curated by sommelier Lyndsey Carr and is proudly Australian.

We’re calling it: Untied is our new favourite rooftop bar in Sydney. Big call, we know. The venue boasts a laid-back tropical Queensland vibe - with palm trees, cabana-style lounges, alllll of the Aperol Spritz plus craft beer on tap. Highlights from the bar menu include the fried chicken tacos, spicy burrata, steak chow bow and the lobster ‘Chiko’ roll with truffle aioli. PSA: They do $10 margaritas between 6.30pm - 8.30pm on Fridays. While this venue doesn’t boast harbour views like its friends, the sunset vibes from Untied are some of the best in Sydney.

When a venue has the words “vermouth bar” in its name, chances are it’s going to be a good time. The concept of Banksii, a 200-seat bar and restaurant by the water in Barangaroo, is built on botanicals, with over 30 options of vermouth available behind the bar and a kitchen full of botanical-rich foods like sauces, broths and marinades created with wild plant roots, succulents and flowers. The venue has plenty of outdoor seating, so whether you’re visiting for a pre-dinner drink or just popping by for a dirty martini (or two), Banksii has you covered.

Barangaroo Reserve

Alright you guys, this one’s a game changer – your #instapicnic game is finally SORTED. Not only does Barangaroo Reserve provide uninterrupted views of the water, Harbour Bridge and city skyline, but you can also BYO alcohol. Pack a rug and cheese board and set up for a sunset vino. Or, if takeaway is more your thing, Barangaroo’s food precinct is packed with options (head to Bel & Brio or The Canteen for all your picnic staples). Planning a birthday or surprise proposal (hint, hint...)? Hit up the team at Pop Up Picnic, where you can pre-order a picnic hamper and get it delivered to the grassy knoll.
