Hands up who has thought about Dubai in all its incredible glory, marvelled in its beautiful beaches, lusted over its awesome shopping, and envied its vibrant nightlife? Woah. That’s a lot of hands.
Now, hands up who has actually been to Dubai. Yeah, me neither. But, one can dream. It might not be the real thing, but a taste of Dubai is coming to Bondi Junction, so I guess that’s kind of the same? Worry not, it involves Messina. Free Messina…
Dubai Tourism has teamed up with the guys behind our favourite Sydney Gelato stores to give you a liiiittle taste of all the deliciousness of Dubai… in a cup. The Flavours of Dubai ice cream cart will be popping up on level 5 of Westfield Bondi Junction, and it will be scooping out two all-new, heavenly, bespoke flavours of that sweet, glorious Gelato Messina we all have slightly inappropriate dreams about. Want to know what these mystical flavours are? Drumroll, please…
The first is Desert Oasis - honey, rosewater and sweet pastry flavour that is a real knee-weakener, and the other is The Pistachio Palm, a moreish saffron with pistachio praline. Yup. It’s every bit as exciting as you’d imagine.
And while you’re sitting there enjoying your ice cream and wondering how in the world you got so lucky as to get this deliciousness all up in your grill (for free), you can simultaneously give yourself a chance to win a family trip to Dubai worth $20,000, which includes return airfares and accommodation at Atlantis, The Palm.
Want to get involved? Simply head to the Flavours of Dubai pop-up (like you wouldn’t anyway), grab yourself a scoop of either mouth-watering flavour, take a selfie in the virtual Arabian desert at the stall, pop it on your fave form of social media, and hashtag #TakeMeToDubai. Then you’re done. And you could be on your way to Dubai in all its glory in a matter of months, eating at one of the 5,400 restaurants and wondering why you haven’t moved there yet.
The Flavours of Dubai pop-up comes as more Australian chefs turn to Dubai for culinary inspiration. This month, high-profile Aussie chefs including Matt Moran, Manu Feildel, Shannon Bennett, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan, will be joining chefs from around the globe to participate in the Dubai Food Festival and celebrate Dubai’s emergence as a gastronomic destination.
That’s it. That’s all you need to know. Now run, don’t walk!
