If you've ever wanted to gallivant down the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy, you need only head over to Australia Square in the CBD. Newly opened restaurant, The Lemon Tree, distils the light elegance of southern Italian fare into a menu spanning fresh seafood, cheeses and traditional desserts.
Helmed by head chef Peter Streckfuss, formerly of Catalina Rose Bay, you can expect the familiar mainstays of Italian food – prosciutto and melon, caprese di buffalo – but also a few regional specialties – Tuscan lamb cutlets and spaghetti vongole. The Lemon Tree's crisp, retro interiors set the tone for corporate lunches and casual dinners alike.
Grab some freshly-shucked Sydney rock oysters and an antipasti platter at the bar if you're just having a few drinks. There's a range of classic Italian cocktails, a generous selection of red and whites and, of course, Peroni on tap. Or, stomach space dependent, you could go the full monty with the $58 chef's selection tasting menu. If you're going à la carte, you don't want to miss out on the mascarpone lemon curd tart, authentic tiramisu or honey ricotta cake.
The next time you're looking for a light lunch that isn't food court sushi, or need a hearty meal before a night out, head right over to The Lemon Tree (with actual lemon trees as décor) and make like it's summer in Positano.
