Give us an extra day and we will find plenty of things to fill it with (when we’re not stuffing our faces with chocolate, that is). To celebrate Easter, plenty of fantastic Sydney hotspots are putting on special events for us to check out and we’ve given you a round up of things to do in Sydney this long weekend so you can make the most of it!
Brad Robson Exhibition at Three Williams
This weekend we will be having our flat whites with an extra shot, one sugar and a side of art at the ever-delicious Three Williams café in Redfern. Fresh from New York, Brad Robson is using the walls of Three Williams as his canvas, creating his largest-ever oil painting, lit with changing LED down lights to really bring his work to life. This 6-week collaboration is part of the Spectrum Now festival and all works will be for sale through Three Williams, including a silent auction piece.
Young Henrys Noble Cut Small Batch Gin Launch
The geniuses of Young Henrys have done it again, launching their first release of Noble Cut Gin – a uniquely Australian gin using locally sourced botanicals to emphasise gin’s savoury London dry taste. Rather than doing one big invite-only launch, the YH gang is attempting an ambitious, simultaneous national launch with over 100 venues already confirmed. Each Sydney bar, hotel and venue will be creating a special cocktail based on the new spirit, kicking off at 5pm. Sydney venues include Earl’s Juke Joint, LP’s Quality Meats and Mojo Record Bar, as well as a stack off others which can be found on the website. Nothing says ‘Happy Easter!’ like happy drinking.
Easter Feastival at Sydney Fish Markets
We take on Easter as a marathon chocolate eating contest, and the only thing that will drag us away from the copious amounts of rabbit shaped chocolate is going to be copious amounts of delicious seafood. Lucky for us, Sydney Fish Market chooses to celebrate Easter by extending their trading hours, opening from 5am until 5pm on Good Friday for all our seafood needs. There will be face painting and a VIP appearance by a certain chocolate delivery bunny to keep you entertained between stuffing your face full of prawns and fighting someone’s dad for the last whole barramundi. Game on.
The Grounds Easter Fair
Think you already love the market stalls at The Grounds of Alexandria? Be prepared to be amazed by the brand new selection of stalls as well as giant bunnies and a few activities to keep the kids amused while you chow down on their delicious foodie treats. And never to be outdone by anyone, from 8:30am The Grounds Of Alexandria will be putting on one hell of a show, holding the easter egg hunt to beat all easter egg hunts throughout The Grounds garden, with 5000 chocolate eggs for you and the kiddies to track down. Whoever finds the one golden egg among the lot will be gifted with a toy loot to beat all toy loots, so best be alert!
Mosman Village Art & Craft Market
One of our favourite things to do in Sydney is spend the weekend at one of our many suburban markets. This fun family market is held on the first Saturday of each month in the heart of leafy Mosman. There are 150 stalls stacked with arts and crafts, gourmet food and musical entertainment to browse and buy your way through, which is our idea of a perfect Saturday – spending it in the suburbs stuffing our faces.
The Championships Day 1 Royal Randwick
Fashion, dining, socialising and horses – is there a better way to kick off your Easter long weekend? We think not. Put on your best outfit, head down to Royal Randwick and see how long you can go without making any Saddle Club references. The dress code for The Championships Day 1 is black and white, setting the monochromatic image while you enjoy the glitz and glamour of being at the races. Clinique Pamper Lounge will have your back with complimentary makeup touch-ups so you are never ‘one of those trash-bags’ and the Chandon Pop-Up Bar is the perfect place for a glass of bubbles with your friends after having a look through the special exhibition of the Doncaster Mile in the members area, celebrating the 150th anniversary.
Pelicano Championships Racing Lunch
If you don’t want to deal with the crowds but still want to get your fancy racing fix, Pelicano is the hottest racing lunch in town. An $80 set menu will see you starting off the days festivities with a glass of GH Mumm on arrival before watching the races live on the big screens, with betting facilities and competitions for best dressed (both male and female) on the day, be sure to dust off those fascinators and cufflinks!
Vibes on the Wharf
Summer may be over but the party still lives on at the Manly Wharf Hotel. Vibes on the Wharf will see Aeroplane hitting the decks for a massive afternoon of beats and beers to celebrate the long weekend. Tickets are available on the day, but it’s best to get in early online.
Australia's Biggest Chocolate Easter Egg
Couldn't get enough of Satuday's festivities at The Grounds of Alexandria? Head back on Sunday for even more Easter Fair action, as well as the cracking of the enormous and food-coma inducing 2-metre tall chocolate Easter egg at 2pm.
Dirty Dancing at Sydney Open-Air Cinema
Do you want to spend your Monday telling people you “had the time of your life” and that you had “never felt like this before”? Then pack some picnic rugs and something to keep you snuggled up and warm, and head down to the Sydney Open-Air Cinema for their screening of Dirty Dancing for a fantastic night under the stars – I swear, it’s the truth!
The Great Easter Egg Hunt
Easter memories don’t come better than the excitement, commitment and pure energy you had for an Easter Egg Hunt. This year, Vaucluse House is opening their doors for one of the most picturesque hunts of the season! Children will have the opportunity to explore the expansive grounds as they hunt for egg tokens, which they will later exchange for an Easter goody bag from the Big Bunny himself! Parents can tag along with their cameras to get some paparazzi shots of bunny and baby, as well as entertainers to keep the fun levels high.
Easter Special at Fat Noodle
If you haven’t had a chance to check out Luke Nguyen’s latest project Fat Noodle at The Star, their Easter special will get you there quicker than you can say pho. From the 3rd to 6th of April, Fat Noodle is serving up a delicious special of 1/2 Canadian lobster with Singapore chili sauce on a bed of lettuce served with jasmine rice for only $28! Nom city.
Anne Summers Conversation with Adam Goodes
For one night only, Adam Goodes will be in conversation with Anne Summers at the Sydney Recital Hall. Adam and Anne will have a Frank and unscripted conversation about the influences in his life, especially that of his mother who was a member of the Stolen Generation, about why he decided to become a White Ribbon Ambassador, his determination to have a national conversation about racism, and the highs and lows on the football field. It’s not often that such a prominent sporting figure has these kinds of conversations, so it promises to be a heartfelt and informative evening not to be missed.
