Time and time again we all get the urge to run away. Whether induced by your avoidance of a deadline and expert-level of procrastination, a super special occasion requiring an equally super special setting, rebooting the romance with your significant other, or just a good ol’ pals weekend escape.
These hidden coastal spots will have you whipping out your credit card ASAP, packing up the car and stocking up on the essentials. And by essentials we mean wine, lots of wine.
Grounds Of Cabarita
This stunning Airbnb is one that’ll have your eyes and soul feeling giddy just by hitting ‘book’. Located a short drive past the Gold Coast’s southern border, in the sleepy idyllic beachside town that is Cabarita, it’s the perfect getaway to suit all occasions. The renovated 1960s beach house, owned by Blackboard Coffee founders and all-round #couplegoals Nick and Sophie Pearce, Grounds of Cabarita exudes beach-chic beauty. Don’t believe us? Featuring a white picket fence at its entrance and whitewash boards complimented by bold designs throughout, you’ll be almost too distracted by the beauty to realise you’re in the heart of Cabarita, close to some of the best restaurants and beaches around. Keen to just stay put? Even better. Indulge in great locally-roasted coffee, eggs from their chook coop, large rain showers (in case you’re not already aware you’re in heaven), stunning garden views as you delve into that novel you’ve not had time for and, come night time, crack open the aforementioned necessities and up your carb intake by utilising their wood fired pizza oven. Reboot the system, take time to appreciate the finer things and reconnect with your loved ones by booking here. Though book quickly, as nights fill up fast!
Richmond Ranges Cabin
Cambridge Plateau, Richmond Ranges
Now, this one we hesitated to share. Only because we want it to be available all the time so we can visit whenever. But, alas, she is far too much of a hidden goodie to keep secret. Richmond Ranges Cabin is one for those who really want to get away, as your nearest neighbour is a world heritage-listed rainforest. Literally, you have to drive 15 minutes inland through a rainforest, thinking you’re most definitely on the wrong road, before all of a sudden you’re met with a scene that will leave your mouth agape. The sight of your rustic one-bedroom cabin perched atop a hill will make you swear you can see the ends of the Earth, and there’s only one word that will pop to mind: peace. There’s little to no phone service and no shops close by, so be prepared by bringing along some extra warm clothes for the chilly nights, blankies and UGGs because, well, why wouldn’t you? Lastly, make sure to stock up on every grazing board item known to man, along with all your fire-making essentials to ensure your trip is complete. The best thing about this place? No curtains. Which means you’re waking up to the purest of sunrises dripping through your floor-to-ceiling windows. Do one better, though. Wake up early, grab a porch chair and blankie and soak in the calm morning rise as the animals surrounding your newly-adopted home start to wake and the birds start to whistle. Mark our words: you will not regret it. Check her out here.
Spicers Hidden Vale
Whether you’re needing to score serious brownie points with your woman or searching for the perfect weekend getaway to spoil your mumma, grab that current list of ideas you’ve got, scrunch it up and throw it at the trash can in a way that would make Lebron jealous, because we’ve just made your decision for you. Spicers Hidden Vale has everything you’d ever want, for whatever type of guests you may bring. To start, Spicers has its own spa, where a fully trained masseuse can rid you of those pestering knots or, if you’re more of a foodie, then you’ll be busy holing up in renovated barns taking in the exquisite sight of farmland and fire pits. Not to mention ‘gramming Insta-worthy meals before your tastebuds tap-dance in happiness. If all the relaxation is taking its toll on you (poor you) or your significant other is driving you bonkers, then you can always add mountain biking, trail hikes or four-wheel driving tours to the itinerary. The beauty of this place, and we don’t mean physically, is you don’t have to totally break the bank on accommodation, with options that cater for all. Plus super-friendly employees who always go beyond measure to ensure you’ll have the greatest of times. Bliss.
The Mouses House
Springbrook National Park
The Mouses House. The name says it all, really. Pack your suitcase like, now, and head north on the M1 toward Springbrook immediately. The drive itself is enough to make those butterflies of anticipation in your tummy flutter, as you exit the M1 and make your way through the magic and awe-inducing goodness that is the Gold Coast Hinterland. If you’ve gone all out, which we highly recommend, then you’d already know that your stand-alone wooden chalet comes fully equipped with a massaging spa bath and views of the rainforest to really ensure you’re feeling at one with nature. Once you’re done soaking in bubble utopia, make your way inside and unwind more so, if even possible, by lighting the fireplace and restoring your sanity by listening to the fire pop and crackle. Could heaven on Earth actually exist? We assure you, it does. And it’s highly likely it’s in the form of a modernised rainforest cabin not too far from the Gold Coast.
Lamington National Park
Not really the camping type? Well, this beauty is about to change all connotations you’ve previously held. Forty-five minutes drive inland from the Gold Coast, deep in Lamington National Park, is where you’ll find Nightfall. A place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of #goldcoastlife, while also meeting in the middle for a compromise should your travel partner prefer camping Russel Coight style. The Nightfall experience promises hand-built safari tents decked out with an artisan’s touch for that homely feel—interiors featuring wire-brushed timber flooring, rain head shower and stone basin, fireplace, and organic bedding built for two. While you’re busy being lost in your own thoughts about how great life is you could be peacefully interrupted by the sounds of the crystal-clear cascading waters of Christmas Creek and surrounding rainforests. Sounds pretty terrible, huh? Be warned, Nightfall can host just six campers at any given time, so be prepared to book well in advance here.
