Had a long week and need a little something extra this weekend? Hitting up one of Brisbane’s best cafes for some great food and coffee is a definite pick me up, and a perfect way to kick start 48 hours of you time. Whilst Brisbane’s Northside is renowned for their cafes, Brisbane’s Southside is having a real moment in the spotlight.
That’s why we’ve hand-picked 7 southside cafes to try this weekend.
With a focus on fresh seasonal produce, Jam Pantry is a Brisbane café stalwart. They provide some damn good coffee, along with classic eggs benny, avo toast, or help hit up the famous pantry option which includes fried eggs, peppered beef cheek, baked onions, tomato jam, parmesan crisp, and pesto atop toasted sourdough! Don’t leave without stocking up on some of their home made jams!
The Rare Pear
Holland Park West
The Rare Pear provide food offerings to die for; cauliflower, corn and fetta fritters anyone? How about the savoury mince? Serving up delicious coffee, smoothies and milkshakes with their hella good brekky dishes, The Rare Pear is a weekend champion!
Slack's Track Cafe
Slack's Track café in Mount Gravatt has Toby’s Estate coffee on tap and also does a wacky but tasty—we promise—mushroom ‘cappuccino’ with a drizzle of truffle oil and crusty bread. You wouldn’t expect anything less from the cafe venture from the minds behind 85 Miskin St. Prepare to start up a love affair with the entire menu!
Southside Tea Room
Totally charming, and a Brisbane café fave, Southside Tea Room in Morningside is more than just great breakfasts. Its retro fit-out houses treats including sweet tarts, sand cake, and marshmallow, cornflake and chocolate chip cookies (which, for the record, are as epic as they sound). They also do a cracking breakfast with plates such as the herbed waffle with bacon, fried eggs, sriracha butter and maple syrup. If you’re a little rough around the edges from last night’s antics, then grab one of their bloody marys. You’ll feel fresh as a daisy in no time.
Billy Kart Kitchen
Behind the roller doors, Billy Kart Kitchen is a bright and colourful interior with plenty of seating for a lazy Saturday feed. Billy Kart Kitchen nail the whole seasonal produce scene but be wowed by the fact that almost everything on their sophisticated menu is made from scratch!
A firm favourite on the Brisbane café scene, Seven South in Yeronga is the perfect spot to while away an afternoon on a weekend. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, order yourself a matcha green tea frappe and the croque madame, then see how easy it can be to turn a long lunch into a lazy dinner. Ultimate weekend vibes.
South Brisbane breakfast haunt, Gauge is a knockout. From the same people behind grocer and cafe, Sourced Grocer, fresh produce is turned into gustatory works of art here. Their jasmine rice pudding with saffron and ruby navel orange is the perfect sweet and savoury combo for a weekend feed and the smell of coffee wafts through the air here so help yourself to some of the Coffee Supreme beans that they have on offer.
