Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? So it might not be the best idea to start it off with a pile of bacon and pancakes? Whether you are vegetarian or vegan full time, or just want something light for your next morning meal, we've tracked down our favourite Brisbane breakfast options that come sans meat.

These are Brisbane's best vegetarian and vegan breakfasts.

Merriweather Café

South Brisbane's favourite café for a merry morning meal, Merriweather Cafe does a vegan breakfast of potato and caremalized onion hash with broccoli and kale pesto and Swiss brown ('shroom) pate.

Orawgi

Not just serving up vegetarian and vegan food, but RAW food, kids! Woolloongabba's Orawgi are open for breakfast and specalise in raw, dairy-free delights to eat in or takeaway. Raw burgers, raw doughnuts, raw smoothies, raw mueseli…NOM.

Lurleen's

If you'd like to escape the city AND have some great vegetarian breakfast fare while you're at it, Lurleen's — the stunning restaurant at the Sirromet Winery in Mount Cotton — does a heavenly grilled Portobello mushrooms on sourdough with goat's curd and semi dried tomato.

Raw Juicery

Looking for vegetarian breakfasts in Brisbane? Whether you're vegan or vegetarian, this should be your go-to for brekky. Using only the finest and freshest raw ingredients, you're safe to eat pretty much everything on the menu (and we recommend you do). Whether you choose one of their traditional acai bowls, or opt for a chia pudding, Raw Juicery is 100% guilt free, and so, so yummy!

Symposium Cafe

One for both vegans and vegetarians (or anyone really), Symposium is home to both awesome paleo breakfast nosh (read: meaty) and vegan fare. Their paleo waffles with berry compote and chocolate avocado sauce are totally vegan, and totally yum.

Mondo Organics

Organic? Check. Gluten free? Yep! Vegan and vegetarian breakfast options a-plenty? You bettcha! Their veggo sanga with a sweet potato kale pattie, haloumi, and a fried egg can be made vegan or dairy free depending how you like it. Mondo's rice porridge (made with poached pears, dates, and coconut milk) is also vegan. Gourmet vegetarian breakfasts in Brisbane don't come much better.

Café O-Mai

Soup for breakfast may seem like a strange concept but trust us, pho (pronounced 'fur') is the right way to start a chilly winter's morning. Cafe O-Mai's is packed full of a veg' and tofu, floating in a super delicately spiced broth, we think it's a pho-nomenal vegetarian breakfast dish.

The Balfour Kitchen

Balfour Kitchen have to be one of our absolute faves when it comes to breakfast, and they cater to vegetarians, too. To be quite honest, there's nothing on the menu that we wouldn't recommend (seriously, it's that good), but for our vegetarian pals, Balfour Kitchen's oven roasted mushrooms served with dukkah, feta, beetroot chutney, rocket and poached egg is the absolute bomb. Your tummy will thank you for it.

The Green Edge

Everything on The Green Edge's breakfast menu is vegan, so feel free to run around like a kid in a candy store at this vegan café and grocery store, picking whatever the heck you want for breakfast! Our faves from this vegan breakfast wonderland include their brekky wrap, and house-made baked beans.
