BREAKING: A Three Story, Chinese Fine Dining Restaurant Is Opening In The CBD

With bated breath we have been waiting to find out who will breathe life back into the vacant heritage listed site at 171 George St. After going through many reincarnations from bank to radio station, the lofty neo classical space has been sitting pretty and ripe for the picking.

Now, hospitality powerhouse Ghanem Group will revive the space with Donna Chang; a three story Chinese fine dining restaurant. (Seinfeld lovers, there will be no “Changstein” curveballs here.)

You’ll know The Ghanem Group: they’re responsible for some of the most iconic Brisbane venues including Blackbird Bar & Grill, Byblos and Lord of the Wings. In their newest pursuit, Jason Margaritis (ex-Spice Temple Melbourne) and Shawn Gomes (ex-Il Centro) will join forces to bring you an authentic Chinese menu, overseen by group executive chef Jake Nicolson.

Ancient Cantonese cuisine will meet modern techniques, to create the most sumptuous, opulent (and at times fiery) flavours all with locally sourced produce, natch. With a gentle nod to Sichuan flavours, you can expect exquisite dishes and an inspired wine and cocktail list to boot.

As seamlessly infused as the modern flavours, the venue will unite old and new with a decadently refreshed interior. This really will be a dining experience to ignite all of the senses.

The icing on the cake? An opulent basement-level cocktail lounge, Boom Boom Room will reside where the building’s bank vaults once were.

Slated for a July opening (that’s LITERALLY next month, guys!) we’re totally there for this nek-level dining extravaganza.
