Okay, okay. We know that 2016 isn't even cold in its grave yet but we are just SO FLIPPIN’ EXCITED for what’s on the way in 2017. From burger joints to Japanese eateries, the new year looks deliciously packed to the brim with new culinary hot-spots just itching to be explored. So without further ado, here’s a list of what we can’t wait for already.
Ok you guys, it’s time to ditch the black mourning clothes, cause Boundary Street’s Charboys is coming back! Brought to you by two of Brisbane’s own Burger King’s, Dom and Shrav, the new Charboys is set to open in Edward Street in January next year. Already famous for their delicious cheeseburgers on soft brioche buns with the special Charboys secret sauce, there are rumours flying about that the new opening also boasts new secret menu options. Hot tip: Charboys satay skewers are life.
Longtime's New Japanese Sibling
Like Iron Chef? Well, you’ll love the team behind Fortitude Valley’s Longtime new Japanese venture that’s coming in mid-2017. While the new venue's name is still a closely guarded secret, what we do know is that it will boast a REAL former Iron Chef as it’s head chef, who will also help design the new menu with Longtime and Rick Shores chef Ben Bertei. We are hyperventilating with excitement already–did we mention an Iron Chef?
If you like Hardcore Metal, skates and cracking coffee then you’ve heard of the guys behind Death Before Decaf on Brunswick Street. Don’t let the painted skulls deter you, this 24/7 espresso bar is the home to some truly awesome caffeinated creations and they are now opening their second store Deathproof in 2017.
Lactose intolerant? Can’t handle the grain family? Nuts make you go nuts? Former Public Chef Damon Amos has gotchu. He’s opening a new restaurant called Detour in 2017 with a dietary-sensitive focus–celiacs we’re talking to you. The entirely gluten-free kitchen and plant-based menu will have vegetarians and fussy eaters alike clamouring for a table. Tucked away in Logan Road’s cul-de-sac, this is an opening that’s not to be missed.
Technically already open (admittedly we were all too busy thinking about Christmas break), Fratelli Famous is the king of pizza down south, and we're proud as punch to have her on Eagle Street. With a build-your-own menu for the super fussy among us, light-as-air pizza bases and traditional Italian-style toppings, Fratelli Fresh is officially our new fave pizza joint.
A big fish for Brisbane, the notorious Sydney restaurant icon, Rockpool will open its doors later this year. It's no secret that this is a huge win for the Brisbane dining scene—we're classy AF now in case you didn't know.
The second big Neil Perry announcement—and the one we're (not so secretly) hanging out for is Spice Temple—the sexy, dim-lit Chinese two-hatted restaurant, set also to open in late 2017. Take it from us, you'll never try a better dumpling outside of Asia. Big call.
Brisbane's first ever arcade game bar, Netherworld just opened over the weekend to huge corwds! Featuring 25+ vintage arcade games (Donkey Kong and Space Invaders come at us!), 15 classic pinball machines, countless board games and consoles plus dozens of craft beers on tap, we bet you $50 this will become your regs nightly hang in 2017.
Neil Perry's (what can we say, Neil loves Brisvegas) infamous burger joint, Burger Project is finally, finally setting up shop in South Brisbane later this year, with rumblings that a 4-5 location expansion in QLD is imminent. Famous for their hand-made Cape Grim beef patties, these are no ordinary burgers. Don't believe us? Just ask basically anyone in Sydney or Melbourne why they queue for a bite of Neil's buns...
