As you’ll be well aware, there’s been some nefarious fruit tampering in the past couple of weeks with people finding needles jabbed in their strawberries. The whole palaver has resulted in some extremely bad press, and strawberry farmers are really feeling the pinch with punnets down to just $1 in major supermarkets.
As part of a campaign to chill everyone out (and remind us to chop before we chew), the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, have pitched a marquee in King George Square to distribute cone after cone of their Ekka-famous strawberry sundaes in a bout of extreme fundraising. This is the first time the sundaes have been available outside the RNA Showgrounds EVER, and since starting this morning they’ve already sold 6,000 sundaes, and every single dollar raised from today’s sales will go directly back to the growers whose hard work make the strawberry sundaes possible.
Be warned, this fundraising drive is happening TODAY ONLY so get down there pronto and help them smash their target of 15,000 before they lay down scoops at 6.30pm.
