It’s almost time, people! Brisbane festival is back, and you know what that means: the best music, food, shows and fireworks (!!!) all on our door step. There’s also a few celebrities making an appearance too, and a giant dance floor in the middle of the city! It’s going to be epic. But with so much to see and do, and so little time, we’ve taken one for the team and poured through the line-up [link to line up] to put together the ultimate itinerary for you. Now all you need to do enjoy yourself. You deserve it.

The Shows

En Avant Marche!

The tried and true combination of music, dance, theatre and opera works to make magic happen in this life-affirming celebration of the power of music. It’s a genre defying masterpiece, and we couldn’t be more excited to see it. Expect Beethoven, Strauss, Elgar and Holst combined with contemporary dance, text, theatre, and music.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Everyone’s favourite Shakespeare comedy is back in a mischievous, irreverent and freshly rejigged take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. LOLs are guaranteed with food fights, lycra and nerf guns; this ain’t your high school iteration of Shakespeare. There’s also a live band who channel The Ramones, Barry White, and everything from grunge to orchestral masterpieces—how very un-Shakespeare.

La Veritá

From the creative genius’ behind Ciruqe Du Soleil’s Corteo and Luzia comes La Verita. Chronicling the many stories of Salvador Dali with acrobatic spectacle, juggling rhinos, raining wine corks, and Dali-faced ballet dancers atop giant dandelions, we can’t wait to catch this show.

Touted as a fun beach party the whole family will enjoy, Troppo is set on a tropical island far, far away and tells the story of a family who happen to stumble upon it. Except that family is a circus troupe. Will they live to tell the tale? Or will they wind up a little bit ‘troppo’? It would be criminal to miss this.

Meow Meow’s Little Mermaid

Everyone’s favourite sea based love story is back, except way cooler. Expect a shrewd twist on the tale of happily ever after, isn’t Disney, sorry. And, spoiler alert: it’s not quite the happy ending you’re familiar with. It’s sexy, seductive and boasts a killer musical line up with originals from Megan Washington and Kate Miller-Heidke, to name a few.

Snow White

Four separate works will be making an appearance this year to showcase the story of Snow White, each in a unique way. They’re each a different, much more adult reincarnation of the story we grew up with. Think less singing birds and happily ever after, and more axe-bearing heroines.

Arcadia is kind of a big deal. It's the hub of Brisbane Festival, if you will. Home to food, wine and discovery and the 'Magic Mirrors' and 'Aurora' spiegel tents, you'll be calling this place home all September. Catch cabaret, all kinds of music and hilariously talented comedy acts here, but only after indulging at the Little Creatures Treehouse of course. This two story treehouse has one of the best views of Brisbane we've ever seen from their deck in the trees. Plus, the always impressive Brisbane Airport 3D Street Art is back with a vengence and waiting for you to perfect your selfie game.
