Brisbane is often the butt of many a southerner’s joke. We’ve heard it all before: we’re a country town, we’re all country hicks, we’re behind on all the trends. Trust us—we’ve heard it all. And, to be honest, it gets pretty boring; especially considering Brisbane is actually one of the best places to live, like, ever.

We felt like sharing a bit of love for our humble river city, so we’ve teamed up with Brisbane Marriott to bring you a list of all of the reasons we love living in Brisbane. Because really, what’s not to love? Excuse us while we gush over our fair city.

To Brisbane, we love you.

#1 It’s Seriously Pretty!

You know those parents who are all like, ‘my child is the CUTEST, honestly!’ but they’re very, very wrong? Talking about your own city can often sound like that, but, trust us when we say Brisbane is actually beautiful. You’ve seen the evidence for yourself: winding rivers, rainforest retreats, hipster cafes, Koala sanctuaries. I mean, the scenery pretty much speaks for itself.

#2 The Produce Is Fresh (Read: The Food Is Delicious)

Living in Brisbane has its perks. Other than year-round sunshine and laid back vibes, we also have access to some of the country’s best foodie regions. We’ve got Stanthorpe, the Sunshine Coast, Lockyer Valley…we could keep going, but we don’t want to bore you with our foodie obsession. Stop by spots like Motion Bar & Grill to get a taste for our state’s freshest, local fare. Wear stretchy pants, obviously.

#3 Everything Is Near By

If you live in Brisbane you’ve no doubt heard the old adage that Brisbane is really just a small country town. When everyone knows each other by some way or another, it’s easy to feel like living in Brisbane is just like living in one big, happy family (except when you run into your ex literally everywhere). But, when indie art galleries, epic Greek eats, and fancy boutiques are just a City Cat stop away, living in a so-called ‘small town’ has its perks. Especially when your base is smack-bang in the middle of all the action.

#4 The Shopping Is Epic

We’re a stylish bunch in Brisbane. And the reason for that is pretty simple if you ask us: the shopping here is next level. We’ve nailed the perfect mix of hidden boutiques, luxe mega-stores and staples like Zara. From the leafy, sun-dappled paths of James Street with gorgeous boutiques like Libertine and Aje, to the bustling Queen Street Mall, or incredible antique stores in Woolloongabba—wherever you go, you know you’re going to stumble on a trove of hidden treasures. Sorry, credit card.

#5 We’re So Cultural

When we mention culture, you’d be forgiven for not thinking of Brisbane first. But, we’re here to prove you wrong. Because Brisbane is totally killing it in the culture game. Jump on the City Cat, or even go for a walk, to make your way over to GoMA and get lost in their interactive exhibitions (the furry wall, OMG!) or, hot foot it to James Street and check out TWFINEART Gallery; it’s well hidden, but worth the hunt to catch an exhibitions from little-known artists. Plus, you can check out shows like Matilda at QPAC, or kick back with live music at some of Brisbane’s best bars (will hyper link)

If we’ve left you crushing hard on Brisbane, head to The Marriott Brisbane and book yourself a fancy little stay cay, or just visit for the epic eats at Motion Bar and Grill alone.
