Coinciding with National Mental Health Week, Brisbane's now iconic Walk For Awareness is back for 2018—and it's all happening this weekend! The largest dedicated mental health walk in Australia, the Mental Health Foundation's annual Walk For Awareness fun walk aims to break down the stigma surrounding mental health, raise awareness and contribute to the funding of vital mental health programs around the country.
Black Dog Institute's annual report shows that 1 in 5 Australians between the ages of 16 and 85 will experience a mental illness, with almost half the population experiencing a mental illness at one time in their lives. With those kind of numbers, it's pretty crazy to think that there's still stigma surrounding the topic of mental health, and we can all play a part (no matter how big or small) in ensuring our friends, family and those in our communities feel supported.
And, you guessed it, a great place to start is by suiting up in your finest atheleisure and walking the 2018 Walk for Awareness. Simply register for the 8km walk and take part on Sunday October 7—it's as easy as that. Even better, pets are more than welcome too, so bring along your four-legged friends.
Not a bad way to start your Sunday...
When: Sunday October 7 2018
Where: The walk will kick off at Captain Burke Park, Holman Street, Kangaroo Point.
We'd say go get yourself a well-deserved brekkie afterwards, but instead donate that money to the Mental Health Foudation. Probably the only time we'd pass up on a flat white and a brekky burg...
