In case you’ve been living under a rock (or your doona) for the past month, we’ve teamed up with American Express to celebrate the fifth annual Shop Small. We hosted The Urban List’s first ever Urban Weekender presented by Shop Small, and partied the only way we know how—by eating, drinking and shopping, while supporting our local heroes.

If you’re feeling total FOMO, we get it; you missed out. But don’t worry, even though Shop Small month is coming to an end you can still support your local shop owners. Here’s our list of 7 local small businesses that are worth your hard-earned cash.

Perth CBD

Tiisch is easily the best cafe in the Perth CBD thanks to their ridiculously good coffee, dedication to quality teas and mouth-watering menu. Serving breakfast and lunch, their avocado toast with hummus and preserved lime is a thing of beauty, as are their Instagrammable matcha pancakes with strawberries and roasted rhubarb. Come lunch time we go crazy for their fresh snapper burger stuffed with zesty papaya salad, lime mayo and sweet chilli. You can thank us later!

Mrs S

If you love spending time with your nan, you’ll feel right at home at Mrs S. The crew at this Highgate cafe love to fill your hungry tummy with breakfast, lunch and cakes just like your granny makes them. The absolute must-try is their croque madame, a toastie made with ham and gruyere, topped with a fried egg and served with tomato relish. Paired with a cup of tea and a slice of cake, all that’s missing is your nan, so be sure to invite her!

Sayers is everything you want in a Perth cafe—hip yet not pretentious, modern yet effortlessly classic and with a menu featuring all of the local produce you know and love. They’re mad about making a good cup of joe and we’re mad about their lunch menu, especially their coriander and cumin bean tagine and chickpea fritters. Plus, you can BYO wine to enjoy with your lunch—perfect!

Bites By D

Mount Hawthorn

Dessert boutique Bites By D is keeping the Mount Hawthorn locals sweeter than ever with some of the tastiest desserts we’ve ever eaten and they might just be the prettiest too! They’ve got gateaux as far as the eye can see, a beyond delicious sticky date cupcake, beautiful macarons and a Toblerone slice we would marry if we could. Oh, and did we mention they do a winning high tea that you can bring your own bubbles to?!

Stable Hands

A good cup of coffee is worth its weight in gold and that’s exactly what you’ll find down at Stable Hands in Fremantle. The interiors are downright stunning and their breakfast game is strong with goodness like pork hock on a crisp potato bake with hollandaise, salt bush and kalettes and crushed avocado with salt bush dukkah, crostini, whipped feta, blistered cherry tomatoes and pomegranate molasses. Safe to say we’ll see you there?

Little Way

Since opening in 2016 Little Way has been a firm favourite at The Urban List office thanks to its lovely and sunny outdoor dining area. Their all-day breakfast menu rivals most (we love the shakshouka) and they run $10 specials throughout the week ($10 espresso martini, anyone?) For lunch you must try the slow-cooked lamb shoulder and grilled halloumi with roasted walnuts, tomatoes and basil.

Odyssea Beach Cafe

City Beach

With some of the most beautiful views in Perth, Odyssea Beach Cafe serves seasonal produce in a modern Australian style that’s light and fresh. The perfect spot for a long lunch thanks to the excellent wine list, the Korean spiced fried chicken tacos are and we cannot get enough of their char-grilled cauliflower with white bean puree, currants and roasted almonds. Actually, everything’s delicious, Odyssea can do no wrong!
