Sometimes we just need to retreat from the world, peel away from the daily grind and recover a bit of our inner-zen. While cocktails by the pool and a Dan Brown novel might sound like an appealing solution, a belly full of hotel food and weeks slothing by the pool isn’t exactly life-enhancing. Bringing new meaning to the idea of a vay-cay, yoga retreats are a wholesome alternative that’ll leave you feeling like a million bucks.
Here are a few of the amazing yoga retreats you need to book before 2017 is over.
Sage Yoga | Bali
It’s not too late to jump aboard this retreat led by Perth’s leading Ashtangi, Dana Longton. Set in a quiet village at the Narasmoma Retreat Centre, Dana offers a chance to shift from the noise in your head and the busy-ness of life to enjoy a space for healing and transformation. Starting each day with grounding meditation and a mysore style yoga practice, you’ll be led through a full healing immersion with 12 yoga sound healing sessions woven throughout the retreat.
Horizon Yoga | Spain
What better way to clear the head than hike for 10 days, stopping along the way for a yoga practice to the backdrop of the Spanish countryside? Offering a 150km pilgrimage trail called ‘Camino del Norte’, Horizon Yoga begins their walk at the French Spanish border, where you’ll experience a thermal detox at the Bay of Biscay along the way, marvel at the art and architecture of the Guggenheim in Bilbao and walk off your woes surrounded by rolling hills and coastal villages.
Yoga Alchemy | India
Known as God’s Country, Kerala is a tropical location in the south of India that will be the setting for a six day retreat, hosted by Amanda of Yoga Alchemy. With daily yoga practices accompanied by healing music, mantra, pranayama, meditation and an Ayurveda consult upon arrival, you’ll be feeling brand-spanking-new. What better place to practice for sunrise and sunset than the home of yoga itself!
Spanda School | Margaret River
29 September—6 October
Hosting another seven-day silent retreat this spring, Spanda School offers a transformational retreat in the tranquil setting at Honeyeater Ridge, Margaret River. With so many people having benefited from the last retreat in March, their upcoming one will offer the same opportunity to turn inside and unplug from the daily grind. You’ll find more information on the schedule and what else to expect here.
Yogaworx | Bali
Yogaworx is offering another chance to revitalise your mind and body this October. For the third year in a row in the remote jungle backdrop Bagus Jati, put yourself in the capable hands of Mal and Wendy as they facilitate the ideal break from day-to-day living with six nights of yoga, meditation and massage. Spend your days soaking in herbal steam baths, consulting a Vedic Astrologer and hanging out in nature eating freshly prepared organic food. You’ll find all you need to know about your six days in tropical luxury here.
The Yoga Vine | Nusa Lembongan
If the urban jungle of Perth has you in need of some R&R, why not escape to a tropical island for the week with The Yoga Vine? Offering daily yoga, meditation and nourishing meals prepared in the Batu Karang Resort and Spa, spend the rest of your time swimming or snorkelling off the beautiful island of Nusa Lembongan and getting to know other like-minded yogis in your community. Get all the info here.
Beyond Being Yoga | Bali
This October, Beyond Being will host a beach front retreat with daily yoga classes, surf lessons, massage and Balinese cooking lessons. Hosted by Haley Shmidt and Eric Schwarz at Hotel Komune on the East Coast of Bali, the retreat is customisable so you can choose a four, five or six night stay.
