Every year we anticipate the release of Four Pillars Gin's Bloody Shiraz Gin. And this year, amazingly given everything that's gone on, we're only getting it a month later than usual.
Being released in early July, the 2020 Bloody Shiraz Gin from Four Pillars went through a lot to get here. But luckily, the Yarra Valley was spared from the past summer's bushfires so you'll get to taste this mighty drop at The Rechabite's launch in Perth.
“2020 will go down as one of the strangest vintages on record. While half the country was on fire and experienced extreme heat, the Yarra was quite the opposite.
Overall, we had very mild conditions and high rainfall so the region stayed green for most of summer. Low fruit set and small bunch weights intensified the fruit flavours but the cool conditions (yes, a very cool summer) has allowed great spice, red berry and natural acidity.
Straight away you get pine forest notes, white pepper and spices. The gin is beautifully balanced with a delicious sweetness and nice tannins to finish.” said Four Pillars distiller, Cameron Mackenzie.
This year's shiraz grapes were sourced from Punt Road Wines, Boat O'Craigo, Yering Station, and Faraday Estate as well as growers in Yea and Macedon, but you can hear all about that the Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin Industry Launch in Winter Hall at the Rechabite this Sunday night.
Join the four pillars team and sip your way through a couple of bloody shiraz and Fever Tree tonics or bloody shiraz spritzes. On the food front, they'll be cooking up charsui pork bao and a vegan 'duck' dupe with spring onions, coriander and sesame that might just fool the carnivores amongst us.
It's going down from 6pm on Sunday 5 July so book your spot here.
If you can't make it, buy yourself a bottle here.
