Just when we thought we couldn’t love the McGowan Government any more, they’ve gone and announced that ADCO Constructions has been awarded the contract for the Art Gallery of WA’s Elevate rooftop reconstruction—a project that will support 265 construction jobs.
In six months’ time, the Art Gallery’s rooftop will have been transformed into a stunning multi-use gallery space which can hold 500 people—making it the largest rooftop venue in Perth, with the views to match. Thanks to the State Art Collection, there’ll also be an open-air sculpture park packed with amazing works by local artists, plus an eye-catching artwork by Noongar artist Christopher Pease wrapping around one third of the rooftop wall (that’s 34 metres, FYI).
To top it all off, a new external lift and skybridge will connect the Perth Cultural Centre precinct to the rooftop so you can admire the city views after hours—but we suggest you get in there during the day when it opens to make the most of all the awesome artworks.
