I’m the first person to admit that there’s nothing better than a good ol’ poachie on toast in the morning, but every once in a while you need to step outside of your comfort zone and live a little. There’s a whole breakfast world beyond eggs that needs your attention. If you’ve already tried all the best porridge, pancakes, avo, acai bowls and cocowhip in Perth, this list is your new best friend!
Here are 10 of our fave Perth breakfasts that don’t involve eggs.
Fez | Panna Cotta
Breakfast panna cotta is a thing thanks to Fez and it’s amazing! Picture matcha and vanilla bean panna cotta loaded with fresh fruit, muesli and chia seeds, and then imagine eating that pre-midday. Yay for dessert in the morning.
Flora & Fauna | Anything
A vegan cafe is a pretty good place to start if you don’t fancy eggs, but Flora & Fauna in Northbridge is a good place to start your day no matter what your dietary preferences. With goodies like green tea granola, gluten free banana bread and smashed pumpkin on toast, vegans and non-vegans alike will have very happy tums after a breakfast feast sans eggs here.
The Shipping Lane | Potato Stack
Potato and cheese is a pretty stellar combo if you ask us and The Shipping Lane knows how to rock it. Their giant potato cake topped with avocado, haloumi and mushrooms will have you forgetting about eggs in no time!
Mary Street Bakery | Muesli
Highgate And West Leederville
Mary Street Bakery’s muesli isn’t anything like your standard rolled oats and dried fruit muesli. It’s toasted quinoa and coconut-y goodness topped with labneh and poached fruits and it’s truly delish. Their porridge is also a sure-fire winner on a cold morning.
Gill Street | Smashed Avo
Yah yah I know what you’re thinking. What’s smashed avo without a poachie or two to go with it. But trust me here. When you get avo at Gill’s there is no need for eggs because your toast is going to be topped with what has gotta be at least one whole avocado if not two. This might just be the best smashed avo going round!
HangOut On 20 Preston | Coconut And Saffron Rice Pudding
If you’re a rice pudding fan then get yourself to Como stat and order the coconut and saffron rice pudding from HangOut on 20 Preston. Topped with a perfectly poached pear and a smattering of coconut flakes and pistachios, this dish will make even the most devout savoury breakfast lover a believer in the sweet side.
Chu | Toast
Toast? But can’t we have toast AND eggs? No need at Chu my friends, no need at all! While we do struggle to go past good ol’ avo on toast, the proscuitto, pear and blue cheese is not to be missed!
The Little Pantry | French Toast
If you’re into sweets listen up. The Little Pantry serves brioche French toast with Nutella AND salted caramel AND ice cream. It also comes with rhubarb and pistachios just to balance things out just a little.
Source Food | Sauteed Mushrooms
Sauteed mushrooms with candied beetroots, spiced pumpkin hummus, coriander, cashews and truffle oil, all on top of some delicious toasted rye. Every element of this dish from Source Food is pure perfection and well worth a day off the eggs!
Post | Nut And Seed Toast
Everyone is raving about Post’s Nut And Seed real toast and for good reason. This is health food made delicious. Topped with crushed avo, tomato and cucumber, you’ll want to polish off three servings of this, but one is enough ok!
