When we heard about the opening of Wattle Grove newbie restaurant, Quills, we were keen to get down there to try it out. With a head chef of Deco and Northbridge Brewing Company fame and sous chef who’s done time at The Garden, this new eatery in the Perth foothills did not disappoint.
To kick things off we ordered the duck liver parfait. We love our fancy pate here at The Urban List and this one was no exception. Served with onion jam, we spread lashings of this over perfectly charred bread and when the bread was gone we continued to eat every last bit until there was barely a remnant left on the plate.
From the full rations section of the menu, we ordered the pan roasted salmon and the lamb rack, with some polenta chips on the side for good measure. The salmon, served with fish cakes, a grilled zucchini salad and zingy tomato dressing was cooked to perfection and offered the perfect balance of fresh and zesty flavours.
On the heartier end of the spectrum, the lamb rack came with a little shepherd’s pie and was served with peas and baby carrots. It was delish! We also spotted a pretty tasty sounding roast confit pork belly on the menu which we will definitely be ordering next time.
We mopped every last bit up with the polenta chips and had all intentions of ducking out after our mains but the uber-friendly staff at Quills twisted our arms and convinced us to order dessert. The chocolate mousse had our names all over it. Served with popcorn and salted caramel it was creamy and went down way too easily with a cup of peppermint tea. No regrets!
The drinks menu at Quills features local and international wines, beers and ciders, as well as plenty of cocktails and our favourite Capi sodas.
Open for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and for lunch on the weekends, you'll want to add this to your hit list. Click here to find all the deets.
