There is nothing like the smell of freshly roasted coffee to get you going in the morning and the coffee at South Freo’s Roasting Warehouse is no exception.
Housed in what was once an old service station—the servo where owner Alex Carciotto used to buy ice creams as a young boy—the Roasting Warehouse fit-out is an uber cool mix of industrial tech with a sprinkle of rustic flare thrown in for good measure.
An epic coffee roaster is tucked into one corner of the cafe and the cutest mint green coffee machines sit atop a counter made out of construction bricks. Out the front, a raised deck is plonked where the old petrol bowsers would have once been. Luckily the smell of petrol has been replaced with coffee these days.
Located on popular South Terrace, there’s a real buzz at this place on weekends and it’s due to the fact that the food and coffee is so dang good. Eats-wise, it’s hard to go past the potato rosti with ham, hollandaise and poached eggs. This dish has single-handedly convinced me that I need to replace all of the bread in my life with fried potato. Dee-lish!
For those who like to get their Omega 3 kick in the morning, the coffee cured salmon is top notch, but it’s the avocado and chilli on toast that Alex will never be able to take off the menu for fear of the locals staging a riot. Yep, it’s that good.
Epic brekkies aside, the lunch and sweet treat menu at Roasting Warehouse is also super tasty. You really get the feel that everything is made with love here (especially the home-made cakes baked by Alex’s wife) and there are plenty of happy family and Freo vibes.
You can’t go wrong with the coffee at Roasting Warehouse. Di Bella Coffee beans are roasted on site and you can even pick up a bag of your favourite brew to enjoy at home.
Alex and the rest of the crew at Roasting Warehouse take the craft and history of coffee roasting very seriously and will happily give you a lesson on how to make the best coffee, from the roasting to the brewing.
In the warmer months, Roasting Warehouse hire out zippy little bikes for you to ride around Freo—the perfect way to burn off your breakfast!
