Australia might not be the snowiest place in winter, but don’t worry about booking tickets overseas, because Winterworld is bringing the snow to you.
Instead of staying inside, rug up and head out to Australia’s largest open-air skating rink at Fremantle's Esplanade Reserve. You can skate ‘til your heart’s content, and if you want to party on the ice, grab a pair of wireless headphones and take part in the silent disco. The skating runs into the evening all week long and sessions last for one hour, including a "forecast falling of snow".
If making snowmen and throwing snowballs at your friends is more your speed, head to the Snow Pitt and get a taste of fresh powder. For those who want to explore a little, Market Square is the place to be. Browse the stalls and pick up a few tasty treats, then settle in at the Winter Lounge. It’s a great place to roast a marshmallow (or ten) and listen to Freo’s best live music. To warm up, get inside to the Cabin Bar at the National Hotel. There’s nothing like mulled wine and hot chocolate to get you feeling cosy or give you that little bit of extra warmth to head back out again and enjoy the festival.
Winterworld kicks off on 29 July and hangs around for three weeks.
When: 29 June to 21 July
