Five Awesome Things To Do In Sydney This Week

By Alice I'Anson - 28 Nov 2016

The Galeries Gifted

Here at the Urban List we think the best way to get through the week, is to treat it like the weekend. Sounds like a plan, right? This week in Sydney get ready for everything from art and comedy, to the latest food craze and an epic night of online beauty bargains— let’s just hope the World Wide Web can handle it.

We've done the hard yards to give you five absolutely awesome things to do, and they're all guaranteed to bring weekend vibes to your week.

GIFTED At The Galeries

The silly season has officially begun, and The Galeries is about to make the most wonderful time of the year even more magical with GIFTED. For the entire month of December your favourite inner city shopping mecca will transform their laneways into a visual wish list filled with illustrations of every pressie you could ever dream of (hello Mansur Gavriel bag!). There’ll be a Kris Kringle laneway dedicated to gifts under $100 (consider your work secret Santa sorted), as well as a YOGA book pop-up where street artists will create customised gift paper (using Lenono’s YOGA book, obvs) especially for you. The cherry on top of the Christmas pudding though, is Giftagram, where you’ll have the chance to win something off you wish list (from a Galeries retailer) simply by snapping and ‘gramming it (T&Cs apply). Did we mention there’s one winner everyday from now until Sunday? Oh, and there’s also a YOGA book up for grabs each week. See you there.

Live Comedy At The Unicorn Hotel

We’ve always said Monday is a bit of a joke but now we really mean it. Start your week off with a laugh at the Unicorn Hotel’s comedy night. The legendary Happy Endings Comedy Club is coming to Paddo, finalllly. This boutique comedy club will showcase more than five hilarious world class acts every Monday night. Enjoy a hearty chicken parma and your preferred choice of beverage. Trust us, you’ll be laughing your way to Friday.

Where: 106 Oxford Street, Paddington

Cyber Monday Sales

We love a good online flash sale, especially when three of our fave beauty brands are involved. Firstly let’s talk about Frank Body. He manages to get our clothes off without even trying; and this time he’s taking something off too. With 25% off everyone’s cult favourite coffee skin-care range, Cyber Monday is just what we need after the weekend. We’re thinking of getting the Babe Island Kit because that’s exactly how Frank makes us feel. Next on our shopping list is The Goodnight Co. With 20% off storewide how can we say no? Finally we can buy that baby pink silk sleep mask AND the silk pillowcase set to match. It’s honestly the ONLY way to get a good night sleep. Before you swipe that card make sure you leave some credit for Sydney Salon Supplies epic sale in partnership with Anthony Nader. You might want to sit down because GHD products are on sale. With $50-$100 off, including limited edition items, this is a Cyber Monday sale you don’t want to miss. Blowing your weekly budget in one night will be SO worth it.

When: Monday 28 November
Where: Frank Body, The Goodnight Co & Sydney Salon Supplies

Tatsuo Miyajima At MCA

As part of the Sydney International Art Series one of Japan’s most renowned contemporary artists is coming to Australia. Tatsuo Miyajima’s exhibition is his first large-scale show in the Southern Hemisphere. The exhibition, ‘Connect With Everything’, will showcase his spectacular works incorporating sculptures and room scale installations with LED lights. We can’t go past a good light show. Tatsuo really knows how to wow a crowd. Don’t believe us? See for yourself, the exhibition is on until March next year but we recommend you get #cultured ASAP.

When: Now – 5 March 2017
Where: MCA, 140 George Street, The Rocks
Cost: Adults $22, Concession $17

Down n Out West Burger Pop Up

The burger market is arguably one of the most competitive industries in Sydney right now. Down N’ Out are serious players in this game of all things cheese, meat, pickles and sauce. So head to Penrith sometime between Tuesday and Sunday and see what all the tasty fuss is about. Classic chips just don’t cut it as a side anymore, now we’re all about onion rings and jalapeno poppers in our bellies and they’re tasty AF.

When: Tuesday – Sunday 11am-10pm, extended to 12am on Friday’s & Saturday’s
Where: 562 High Street, Penrith
