If you’ve been glued to social media recently, you’ll know that all events across Australia with more than 100 people attending have been cancelled or postponed for the foreseeable future. While the government imposed ban was an essential measure to slowing the spread of COVID-19, this is a devastating blow for the arts, entertainment and hospitality industry, so while you’re checking your bank account for those ticket refunds, spare a thought for the hundreds of thousands of businesses, entertainers and casual workers who are facing a loss of vital income for weeks, if not months. The restaurant casualties are already rolling in, with Arc Dining announcingthat it's closing its doors—for good.
So how can you support them if you're opting to stay indoors? Consider donating your ticket refund to SupportAct instead of putting it back in the bank, or buying a gift card and grabbing some takeaway from your favourite restaurant. After all, when all this is over, we want our thriving events and dining scene back.
